But not because of Avatar, though I like Avatar: The legend of Aang(yes, they already change the title)
Its abit short for me!
What Im talking about are the ones with the caliber of Samurai Jack, YES! Samurai Jack, Samurai Jack was episodic and yet story driven at the same time. It features a series of arcs and adventures of Jack. But sadly, Genndy Tartakovsky abandoned it and switch to Star Wars: clone Wars...
There'll be a time that cartoons will rise again. Even the likes of Nicktoons and CN, even with their comic humor and slapsticks, the cartoons now are bcoming more mature.

Well, that depends, first gotta ask yourself this one question, are cartoons and anime two absolutly different things?
But for the point of this thread, I'll just say that yes, they are two destinct styles, both stemming from different cultures. And I don't think anime realy 'won' over cartoons in the west, same goes for cartoons in the east.
Anime was never truely popular in west, and still isn't.
As for cartoons getting more mature. Mature cartoons have always existed, but it is true that lately even cartoons aimed at children has become slightly more adult orientated. Mostly with innuendos and such, like Spongebob Squarepants and the Emperor's New Groove.
Anyways, once again, seems my post dosnt realy have much of a deffinitive answer~

well it will still depend on the coming generations and their tastes...
anime would still be there and so would the other forms of animations... but for certain there won't be a definite monopoly of the viewership since everyone of us have different tastes..
my most favourite non anime shows would be Spongebob Squarepants, Invader Zim, The Weekenders and The Proud Family... Invader Zim takes my all time top spot.. beating all animes or other animations.. then maybe second spot would be Spongebob and then comes Rurouni Kenshin.. _________________
as bow mentioned, they're two totally different things
(on the side know carol, anime doesnt have a pural form.)
well just the idea of anime surviving without necessarily
being mainstream already proves it has very dedicated
viewers, and the reason i'd say cartoons are more popular
is because it is plainly more accessable than anime. however
now kids are moving on to dubbed anime as more channels
are having them, even though their dubbing quality at times
is quite horrendous, it at leasts introduces them to it.
as for cartoons being better...
now that's just your opinion, without much support =] _________________ "The basis of optimism is sheer terror."

Besides, animes are only popular for a short time, especially the very short ones like OVAs and 13 episodes ones...
Your right, its 10yrs later... and we'v all completly forgoten about Evangelion, Pokemon, Ghibli films, Akira, Ghost in the Shell....
And as for cartoons going to be more popular.... as everyone has already stated, its veiwed by different people in different countries... so there is no deffinitive way of predicting such a thing...
Not to mention, I just see them both as animation, that way, they are on equal terms..
in terms of pop culture, especially in general pop culture, there's a standard trend remains. Like in the 80's were new wave is popular, and in the 90's were boybands are popular, I think animes already have their spotlight right now, its now the cartoon's time to shine...

Cartoons will never have their time to shine and I will tell you why. Not enough people care about cartoons. And by the way, cartoons is a HUGE category. Anime by definition is a cartoon. If you mean childrens cartoons then their time has been passed.
But on the other hand can you not see the HHHHUUUUGGGGEEEE infulences that japanese animation has had on american shows? I mean, come on. Its called SAMURAI JACK. The only thing american about that show is the horrible art style and the name Jack. American cartoons before the late 70's early 80's was nothing but Bugs Bunny and Mikey Mouse. That was their ideas of cartoons. Slapstick humor, stupid jokes, all that humor that is way past its time. We begin to see the detail and animation style of the japanese make its way here with Transformers, Silverhawks, Galaxy Rangers, Voltron, among others.
If you were flip on the television even to Cartoon Network what percetnage of that is pure 100% american? Less that 40 i would say. they have defined their own style with shows like Camp Lazloo, Billy and mandy, ren and stimpy, etc. They never stray from that art style or type of humor. The rest of the programs on that station are either anime or anime based. They have two seperate blocks of shows that are actually anime from japan, and that is not even counting the anime influenced shows like Samurai Jack and Teen Titans. The creators have even admitted to being anime fans and copying some Japanese styles. Teen Titans is literally called "Americanime" by the creators. I prefer to say the word "rip off" but hey whatever.
Turn on 4KidsTV on Fox and what animes are on there? Sonic X. GI Joe was made by Gonzo, a prominent anime company. Yu Gi Oh. What shows that are created here have anime influences? Winx club. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Any original american "cartoons"? Not a single one. Children are being fed anime and anime style shows.
I wont even get into the popularity of Power Rangers, which is 100% japanese.
American animation is not american anymore. It ended back in the bugs bunny era. If you are gonig to say something about american animation coming back then at least know your history carol. Given that animes ARE cartoons, yes cartoons will take over. _________________ Miku Miku!!

Did I read that right? Cartoon>ANIME?! that must be a Typo...
ANIME>cartoon.... *Fixed*
Avatar? ...just seeing that face is making me mad already. His face is like taken from Rockman's facial structure. American cartoons were fun as long as it's Original and funny like Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry.
But Cartoons are "Trying" to Imitate the art of Japanimation, Samurai jack? LOL.
Japanimation is KNOWN throughout the Globe and respected due to the innovations that it has made throughout the years. Cartoons are just ...errmmm...uum. Plain...pointless if you ask me. The art is not even attractive enough for me to watch for 5 minutes...except to criticize IT. And they are getting stupider and more senseless every new show that comes out.
And the most Important of all...MOE()!!! Cartoons doesn't have THAT!!! _________________ PS3 Trophies

im guessing you hate non japanese cartoons with a passion eh...
amazingly i love samurai jack... aside from the fact that it is about a samurai i don't think it is a ripoff from an anime... tis unique and good storyline well some episodes do...
but stuff like teen titans, totally spies and martin mystery are just sad... even sadder is kappa mikey... _________________
On a personal note, I don't hate cartoons but with the type of cartoons shown in TV today. I'd rather watch anime. Anime is known all over the world for it's story diversity, distinct characterization and background aesthetics.
Animes are short but they pack story than 5 cartoon series combined. Due to the innovations anime used, american cartoonists also employed them to their works today. That's why the term amerime sprung, it's a slang used to american made cartoons made in anime style. _________________

Nice observation there Chris...I'm not saying I hate all Cartoons. but at least show some creativity or intellect while making them.
Now Disney animation is different, I can't call that a cartoon. I call it animation, and I can watch them without any arguments against it. _________________ PS3 Trophies
