Regarding the main question, I think they have been trying. I mean c'mon, 80% of almost all the modern Filipino albums are English songs. And after seeing those videos you guys posted, it just seems to be that they're trying too hard to show an Americanized image.
In order to be in the international business, they're gonna hafta be really damn amazing if they wanna make it across the sea. They're gonna hafta try to perform in some kind of movie that will be a hit or something, just like how Lea Salonga did. I heard Christian Bautista is doing well in Indonesia, he might eventually reach the U.S.
Most of the Filipinos from the west, from what I've seen, say that "OPMs suck." Philippines is going to have a difficult competition against the well known and the rising stars of the U.S. And it's going to be more difficult with their miniscule tools of technology. At least Philippines isn't the only one competing for some international fame.. Gah, stupid O-Zone with their Dragonstea din tea. I'd rather listen to OPM than hearing that annoying song. |

also to add up on a few info most of the filipino songs are hacked versions of their american counterparts.. we just do a fairly good job on the renditions..
like i prefer the So Sick version of Passion than the original of Ne-yo.. well that is mostly due to my inclination towards acoustic..
and yes.. instead of trying to go with the genre of the americas i think it would be better if OPMs come out on their own.. have that uniqueness that will enthrall audiences... _________________

We're talking about what carol said right? Well atleast our songs are good, but they're trying to be americans I admit.
I like the songs of Sharon Cuneta, Basil Valdez(not really but many filipinos like his songs), Rey Valera, Asin and Freddie Aguilar, etc... especially the song of OPM in 70's and 80's...
If only we could turn back time and also, the bands of the early 90's like the Eraserheads, Yano and Rivermaya, etc... I could say that was really uniquely filipinos. But still, Rainbow was still darn good! |

| Hehe. That's why I like Orange and Lemons so much. I know that their Pinoy Big Brother song is overplayed, but I just love the rest of their songs coz it's kinda like the oldies. |

seems that we've lost our cultural identity already, not only in music but in other things, like TVs and movies...
Korean telenovelas are hit here in the Philippines so as The Ring influenced movies. *sigh* |

| Haha, yeah. When I was there, "Only You" was the most awaited show. And the latest movie I saw was D'Lucky Ones. But at least the animes are being dubbed to tagalog... |

| Yeah, I love M.Y.M.P. As far as I'm concerned, they're a "revivalist" band in which they revive the old great songs back to life. I only bought one of their albums, though; beyond acoustic. |
