I have a problem with a BIG 1.69GB mkv file. i cannot burn it to a DVD due to the size of it.

can anyone recommend a program on how to Split the 1.69GB file into two files so that I can finally get rid of it on my HDD?

How come you can't burn it into DVD, Raiden? DVD can store up to 4.7GB and the .mkv file is only 1.69GB. How long is the movie?

I know that a DVD can store that much, but whenever I try to burn files that are over 1GB...the burning process ALWAYS fails whenever it's the 1GB+ files' turn. So I need to split it into two instead.

I had a couple of 1GB files that went to the same process of failing...

What software do you use? And how old is your DVD-burner?

I use Nero. I'm not sure how OLD the my DVD burner is...but it can burn at 16x max and can also use Dual Layer DVDs.

this is the model I think...SONY DVD RW DRU-720A

Try burning it at the lowest speed?

Try xxviet's advice. If you can burn at lower speed with no problem, then your DVD-RW drive has a problem.

I don't burn at 16x...I always use the 8x burning speed only. Since I don't care if it takes too long as long as the burning is uninterrupted.

anyways...ok.
All I wanted was a program...T.T

dvd can store data files up to 4.7gb so that shouldn't be a problem..

but if u wana play it on ur dvd player.. then just lower the bitrate .. it should fit fine.. and if the original quality is good .. even with low bitrate it'll look fine on tv..

I never wanted to play ANY Burned videos on a DVD player. I just wanted to split the 1.6 GB file into two(2).

WinRar is what you are looking for. Just split the file up into two rar files. If you don't have Winrar you can use 7-Zip which is a free zip/rar program. You can get it here

http://www.download.com/7-Zip/3000-2250_4-10539225.html?tag=lst-0-1

You will have to input the size by bytes, so just go to this website

http://webdeveloper.earthweb.com/repository/javascripts/2001/04/41291/byteconverter.htm

and convert your size in gigabyte to bytes.

From there you can burn them to your DVD's or CD's, and later have access to them again as long as you still have winrar or 7-zip. Hope that helps.

Winrar is a smaller program (compared to 7 zip) to download and when splitting make sure u hav another 1.6 GB (size of original file) because Winrar creates new files that add up to the original file.

Yikes, 8x? Go slower! Your hard drive probably can't take it. Try 4x or 6x, not more. What a waste of DVDs. And those files you've backed up before may end up being corrupted Sad. Also, try to not run other programs or multi-tasking while burning.

Whenever I burn DVDs...I STOP ALL Programs running to make sure that the reading and burning process goes well with no problems.

the Sowest Burning speed my DVD Burner can run is 6x for DVDs. It cannot go lower than that.

anyways...I'll try to burn it on the lowest setting and see if it'll work^^
