Well, I'd have to say the #1 emotional anime series (of the 250 or so) I've watched would have to be Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. #2 would be the first and second seasons of Honey and Clover.
I'll have to agree that Air was pretty sad, but it ddin't move me as much as some. The 2002 Kanon managed to make me cry too, and it makes me wonder how the 2006 remake airing now will do. Both Air and Kanon were originally games made by the same company.
Also, the last episode of Scryed moves me to tears too, but people think I'm weird because of that. =p |

| It's usually only a few scenes in the anime that moves me almost to tears. Most of them are spoilers of course. Such as
Shouko's death in Soukyuu no Fafner. Ayase's in Scryed. Toujo's confession in Ichigo 100% manga, several scenes in Flame of Recca mainly Kurei and Yanagi's. Onegai Sensei gets an honorable mention. Inoue's Pining in Bleach. Moemi in Video Girl Ai (You're an idiot Yota) and a mountain of other characters usually with unrequited love. That and Shinn winning any fight in Gundam Seed Destiny. That just makes me cry.

I'd say Fate/Stay Night ending made me cry... It's a good anime either way and it's very recommended if you like alot of action with some magic etc... Yeah it's anime with evil holy grails, masters, servants, etc... You gotta love it?
Otherwise nothing else has affected me much in terms of sadness or anything related to sadness. _________________ [img:400:140:a13d904028]http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r8/bigdave_89/Created%20Banners/Dark_Magician_Girl_Sig2.jpg[/img:a13d904028] |

I have to agree! Air was the most touching series I've seen so far. Very very depressing. The thing is that the end didn't really make sense. Does it mean that history and time revolves around them (Yukito and Misuzu). If the same thing keeps repeating isn't that kind of like repeating history? I was a little lost at that part but I loved it. Coming back to the point, yes it was a very depressing ending... |

For me it was full metal alchemist I cried a lot &when I say a lot I mean a LOT the most shocking Sean for me was when I discovered that Tucker turned his daughter into a chimera then when she died it was so miserable and her death so ugly it was like splash and she is all over the wall I almost got sick cuz I liked that girl she was cute and love bale.. any way I found out later on the show that it was only one of many sad moments but I loved it ..........every single menit of it |

I think the definition of a successful anime series is one where you remember the emotions you felt during the show well after you've finished things.
Specific shows that had me emotionally drawn in at some point include...
Neon Genesis Evangelion (last few episodes - mindtrip)
Honey and Clover (entirety)
Millenium Actress (end)
Trigun (Wolfwood's death - best death in any anime)
Gungrave (last 3-4 eps...maybe you have to be a guy here)
Kimi Ga Nozomu Ein (mid section...hated some of the people)
Hoshi no Koe (great 30 minute piece)
Haibane Renmei (last ep especially)
Now and Then Here and There (great depiction of civil cruelty) |

A short list:
Grave of Fireflies - cried like a baby
My Neighbor Tortoro - in a bittersweet, nostalgic way
Hajime no Ippo- oh so many emotions |

I gotta say most anime always try to include a few emotional scene everynow and then... playing with the audience's emotions is always something that the director tends... or should i say WANTS to do
I never really got teary, maybe it's because of my personality, sometimes i really wanna cry but dunno how... like many of the scenes from One Piece
Damn i'm watching Air again |
