But there are limits for I will not let them watch anything explicit (anything with too much violence, fan service, swearing, etc). Definitely not hentai.

But what Silver said is correct, it may be natural for them to satisfy their horny urges. They'll probably watch hentai or explicit behind my back at night. Kind of what I'm doing, except not hentai.

As a parent i must not allow them to watch hentai. I know that they will watch behind my back and thats natural but someone has to make them see that although they watch it, its a bit wrong. Otherwise if they grow up thinking that hentai and those things are normal, then they will become perverts and my grandchildren will be too.
Frightening thought right? Wink

If you keep it as a taboo from them, it'll only make them more curious about it and thus leads them to "explore". Trust me I've experience this (I'm still young). The best thing to do is to educate them not that it is wrong but that it is simply not meant for them. By educating I don't mean like:

Hentai = Bad. Evil. Scary. Stay far away.
Non-Hentai/ecchi = Okay. Good

haha, true.

however, if i had children, of course they should be watching anime. You would be able to relate to them much easier than just talking about school or telling them to do chores or somethign. It could also prove as an easier way to spend time with your children and getting to know them better. It also may help them out with certain problems in life, like how NOT to act in a relationship!

You are correct....i wouldnt be so strict about hentai but at least someone should show them that its a bit embarrasing to let other people know they are watching hentai. Its not a simple thing to explain.

Anyway, animes sure is a nice way to get closer to your kids. You can spend time with them while commenting on the actions of the characters in the anime.
Also, true about how kids can learn what is wrong and what is right from animes. About relationships and stuff

With the internet, I don't think I can avoid my kids to know about anime (both good and bad). I'll let them watch. But watch it with them.
I have no kids. I'm a full time programmer. I don't think I have time to watch it with them. I don't even have a girlfriend/wife. So sad.

with regards to hentai... well it needs to be dealt with tact...

a few reverse physcology here and there and the proper upbringing on other aspects of their daily lives would lead to how they would be considering to watch hentai or how they regard it... Very Happy

as bad as an influence i am... my brothers never tend to watch hentai.. and i know if they are or not cause i got my comp on full surveillance... Very Happy

though they are very well aware i have a few h-vids on an easily accessible drive for them... Very Happy

When I'll have children, they probably won't watch anime. Simply because anime is mostly available only in english or japan and non of these two is our home language.

So the'll watch anime after they'll learn one of these two languages. And until they'll be able to read english subs without searching each word in dictionary, they'll grow enough to watch anything. Laughing

No rush with any of the real sex or violence oriented stuff! Just like with movies or, nowadays, some shows on TV. Too many not-so-smart kids went and copied WWF wrestling moves and Jackass stunts and got hurt real bad or even killed. And we don't need no "kids having kids" stuff or sexual harrassment scenes because younger kids are exposed to sex stuff and just don't know what to do with this. NO rush! NO rush! NO rush!

Plus, some of my favorites like Elfen Lied or the Ninja Scroll movie would be giving younger kids nightmares. Some folks say: "Well, MY kid can take it, no problem!". If you live in the Bronx and see gang shootings, drug deals, prostitution, etc. etc., your kid probably COULD handle this fantasy-land stuff no problem. But all the rest of us would be just scaring the crap out of our younger kids for no good reason.

Ahhhh
I don't see the point.

I'm sure my children will stumble upon it on their own like I did.

it seems the general consensus here is that everyone feels that yes they would have their kids watching anime but moderation is the key. personally i agree. i won't push it on my kids (when i have them) but if they pick it up like i did or if they go thru my collection and enjoy it then that is fine. however, its easy to spot the kid who is obsessed with anime culture and has a problem when you've seen it for yourself. so to truly answer the question, i would say yes it is fine for any kid to watch appropriate anime but it should not be pushed upon them (ie. taking your toddler to an anime convention) but an option that is softly presented to them via their own personal choice. to wrap up...my opinion about people who take their kids to these anime conventions and the kids who are obsessed with reading their manga as opposed to socializing with ANYONE is a sad one. i dont see this as healthy or productive being so obsessed

I'd allow my kids to watch anime....

Expose them to other cultures and, hell, it beats the crap out of the cartoons they're showing today... Well, most of them anyways.

i definatily get my kids to watch anime they would like it anyways so it wouldn't be hard. But i wouldn't force them to watch it i would just show them a feww episodes and see what happens i'll still be watching it anyway.
