I'm surprised noone has made a thread yet. Am I the only SRW fan around here?
Anyway the story follows the GBA game recently released in the US:
After three subsequent meteor crashes on Earth the Earth Federation Government is formed. Researcher Bian Zoldark found out that the third meteor is not of natural origin and contains alien technology within, the so-called Extra-Over-Technology (EOT). Seven years later EOT led to the development of military-style Mecha, called Personal Trooper (PT). But now unidentified mecha are mysteriously appearing all around Earth...
Solid computer-animated mecha battles here, animation and character design aren't spectacular, but the mech battles are what counts, right?
Hey, this show is off to a surprisingly good start. I watched it just hoping to get a few screenshots to add to the reviews database, but as it turns out, this was quite an enjoyable episode 1! I don't know anything about SRW, so I have to admit that I was really waiting for this show to be, well, crap. Maybe that inflates my good opinion of this episode (also the fact that I still have low expectations for its future), but for a while this seems like a fun, enjoyable watch.
Although the "teenage kid/mecha pilot" beginning couldn't even get me to yawn anymore, this one is a rather fresh take on it (and hopefully, less dissapointing than the "freshness" in Zegapain). The pilot isn't just some random kid, but an actual Super Mecha fanboy. lol. That alone is a really cool detail.
I even liked the fact that he pukes on himself when his mecha gets tossed around. that I had only seen in Eureka seveN as a comic device, not as one of the details of the fights. Also, the fact that he is given the robot "to see how he does". It doesn't seem to be too big of a deal. Finally! The fate of humanity doesn't depend on some arbitrarily chosen brat!!
I'm not too keen on the show's use of CG. It blends well with the rest of the "classic" animation 75% of the time, but the other 25% it stands out too much and it looks too artificial, kinda like it doesn't belong there. I wonder what happened to the better blends we saw in Full Metal Panic, for example. In my opinon the current mecha trend saying "look at us, we have CG" is actually counterproductive.
Oh, yeah, be forewarned: The opening is rather cheesy. _________________

I wasn't expecting much since the SRW OVA was crap but to my surprise, it's really not bad. There is one thing that will keep me watching, Shuu is still alive!!!!
I don't care about the Ryuusei and the SRX team, what i want to see is the Lord of Elemental characters like Masaki and Shuu in action. I'm surprised that Ryune isn't shown at the OP/ED, wonder if she will be appearing in the coming episodes.
Episode 2
Nothing outstanding but still solid, I guess. Ryusei gets saved by other people, not by his own mad skills, which only rid him of a couple extra bugs at the expense of his mecha's arm, although he proves capable of using some tricks an average joe wouldn't. Then is the calm after the storm. Unfamiliar as I am with SRW, I thought that Kusuha would just get disposed as the normal, rather useless background character, but since she's been unknowingly selected as Ryu's potential replacement, she may prove more plot-critical later on. Ryu's team is getting assembled now, third guy coming next episode. we'll see how that goes.
Just watch Ep2 last 2 days ago, indeed, so far so good. Hope DP can come out faster for the next few episode. Can't wait for Ryu to become the R-1 pilot _________________ [IMG:329:162:2e6adb4596]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/justice195/Kusuhabanner.jpg[/img:2e6adb4596]
I find this anime to be so-and-so. There really isn't anything fresh about this new series but that's what I like about it. It brings out the oldness back to life with different mixes. lol, especially the OP; it makes me feel like i'm in the 1990's again . As for the CG, it seems to be the same quality as the Vandread series.
There really isn't anything fresh about this new series
Umm.. not really, but I'm grateful that some recurrent plot elements are absent from it:
1) the pilot isn't a whiny kid forced to become a soldier. He did have the choice of just quitting, even if circumstance was aginst it.
2) Although he shows good pilot potential, he isn't born with the express purpose of piloting robots/isn't the only one capable of using the machine/isn't the one the robot was designed for... etc, etc, etc. He's not exctly expendable, but he is certainly not "the one" either.
As I said, this show isn't outstanding, and it is just as likely to go good as it is to go rotten. But for the moment it is entertaining. _________________
the episode subbing is up to 17, I rather liked operation Breakout. (ep 14-16)
The series tries to do alot in a short amount of time, it gets confusing... but it was made for OG fans, who already know the story, characters, and such.
That said, for a mecha anime, it is better than Gundam Seed at least, because it is enjoyable to watch.
and it starts picking up around the episode 6, after which the DC declares the start of the Divine wars (which is the title of the anime)

I have one question, what's the difference between OG and OG Divine Wars? They are listed as seperate items in the review section but has the same content. There is also a seperate episode 1 and 2 subbed under both names.

Well, there are 2 different SRW OG animated productions. The TV series (Divine wars) and the 3 episode OVA (simply OG). The OVA is supposed to take place after the TV series.
They're definitely NOT listed as the same. _________________
Isn't the 25 episodes of this series Completed... so this should move to the completed board?
and the subbing is up to episode 18 (islow)
If you say so... The Eureka Seven thread was also moved when the subs were pending *shrug* I'll let the anime mods make the call.
And, BTW, has the series got more interesting? I stopped around ep 13 or so (when Latoony got her new dress) because... well, aside from Latoony looking cute, the series was actually rather boring for me, as I am not a SRW game buff. _________________

As was Konjiki no Gash Bell whose subs are still around episode 107 of 150 last I checked.
Episode's 14-16 I believe was operation Breakout, was the destruction of the main Divine Crusader's force and the death of Bian Zoldark.... But yeah, for fans of the SRW orginal characters.
