Does anyone know a simple not too complex way to convert .avi files onto DVD without loss of quality or cuttoff subtitles that someone who isn't that technical will be able to do.

That's impossible. Everytime you do a conversion, you lose quality. What the programs have to do is uncompress the video and then compress it to a format that's suitable for DVD players. During that compression, you're losing quality.
You're dealing with videos here and you're practically asking for a miracle lol. This might be the simplest way, but I don't how how well it works: http://www.aoamedia.com/Convert-to-DVD.htm . Vision Express Nero might be easier, not sure. Here's a great guide (and I think a must read on their introduction): http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm . |

well what i meant was is there a way to convert them wihthout the subtitles being cutt off the screen and also to still be able to make out the subtitles, because I don't care that much about quality as long as the subtiles can still be read

So, your problem is that your DVD player is not properly showing the right resolution for the TV? How are you doing this, btw (your encoding and burning process)? Does it show the whole thing when you play it on your computer?

yes the DVD is not showing up as the right resolution. My burning process is just importing it into the sonic digital media program and putting it onto DVD from there I don't know what you mean by encoding, and yes it does show up full on the computer

Just for future reference. I might do it when I find something interesting to burn and watch on the DVD player or help someone like someone from here quite a while back. Well, I kinda know how to do it even without using avi2dvd. But there was a person or two in here that was trying to do it with matroska or OGM files, and that's a bit more complex to do.

Sorry, I'm not sure how Roxio works. But I think avi2dvd will do the job that you need since it'll also try to resize the video to DVD's standard resolution (another factor of why avi2dvd takes so long to be finished). You should ask isamu2 for more further info ^_^;
