I think she was most likely what Ralph Werec was after when he attacked the ship.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that things might not be as clear cut as 'good' and 'bad' guys. You just have to ask why on earth Ralph would have switched sides... He seemed like a really good guy at the beginning. |
One of the possible theories is that he got so tired of the war that he's trying to end it in the only way he can see. Another theory would be that the Deague are actually on the side of right and Ralph discovered this - but that doesn't explain why he'd attack his own kid sister. Brainwashing is a possibility, though it'd be a bit cliché'd. Blackmail? Extortion? The Deague might be holding someone hostage who is even more dear to Ralph than Sara was? Right now, the possibilities are still nigh-endless. It is interesting to see how much Ralph has aged, though; when he left, Sara was afraid she'd be the one who'd have died of old age before he got back, due to sub-lightspeed traveling and the time difference. Perhaps this implies Ralph actually got stuck outside sub-lightspeed for a considerable amount of time. That might be when he turned to the Deague, for whatever reason - he might have been abandoned by the Union, made some discoveries and grown very, very bitter. |

Yep, that just about covers ALL the possibilities! If it's anything outside of what you've just said, this anime will either be very clever or very silly! |

sara was a real glutton for punishment in ep 5, maybe she'll stop giving people the cold sholder now and maybe those other girls will die in an attack |

this anime started out strong then went down hill for me. what with her getting beat up all the time, like damn can get through the ep with out a 10 min a$$ beating. if they can get pass this it will get a lot better. _________________ "what does freedom taste like?? it taste like 100 percent bald eagle"

Not quite sure why the beatings would make it bad. I think it says a lot about Sarah's character and motivation (or lack of in this instance) that she would lie down like that. She obviously has very little self worth now. All she's carrying on for is to find out what the hell happened to her brother.
Still, she's got some support now, which is good (I felt quite sorry for her), though, that may disappear again if the other reasoners find out who she really is.
I'm enjoying the internal conflict in this anime (within the crew as well as within Sarah) it makes for a much deeper experience than most other anime. |

| well you know the other reasoners will find out who she really is at some point. she could let the cat out of the bag herself or when they are fighting her brother they could hear her saying "brother" or she could defend him from them in a fight then they would put 2 and 2 together. or someone just does enough digging in records and matches her up with her real identity. i just can't wait to see their reaction when they do find out who she is, will they stick by her or treat her like crap. |

I think it would be better for everyone concerned if Sara told the others about it herself, but that probably won't happen ...
In late, breaking news: Lavinia's quite the weirdo. ^^; |

Yup. She's going to feature quite heavily in the next ep, as well, so we'll get the chance to see just how weird.
The end of episode six was a little cheesy. I was hoping that this series would be steering clear of moral messages and the like, but the end of the episode was just over the top 'this is what friends are for' type stuff. Hopefully that's just a plot device and not an overall theme for the anime. Up until now it's been quite dark and engaging.
I did find the technical terms that Lottie was using quite funny, though. I could see the hours upon hours of tactical thought that had gone into them just shining through! |

I think we can get quite a good idea already from some of the evidence provided by previous episodes ...
Ambushing Sara after her shower and inviting her to touch her (skin) ... dressing up as a bunny girl and inviting Sara to a 'private party' ... the Rambo-esque charging-to-the-rescue-while-overloaded-with-BIG-GUNS bit ... Not to mention Sara begging Emily to save her in the preview to the next episode. Something big is gonna happen, methinks.
Lavinia is rather ... extreme, isn't she? ^^; |

lavinia was a little bit unexpected for me..
yeh sure they just used names from 'little princess sarah' ( http://www.little-princess-sara.net/charactersE.html ) but on that particular story, lavinia was the one who was giving sarah a hard time. and on this far out rendition she seems to be the most caring girl to sarah.. this weirdness(from straying too far from what seems to be the story it is based on) is what attracts me to the story.. yeah, i watched those old world masterpiece theatre series growing up, along with other series(including 'little prince Cedie' -whose main character names were used as cannon fodder for ep1 of S-Strain) mostly pre-Ghibli stuff at that time.
this is soo like twilight zone for me.. _________________ [img:400:237:866f672f5a]http://www.geocities.com/bktabz/mari_boya.jpg[/img:866f672f5a] |

| Well, depending on interpretation, Lavinia is still 'giving Sara a hard time'. ^^; Hmmm, I wonder whether Sara might not prefer being bullied to what has, in fact, happened? Most notably, what happened in ep. 10 ...? |

Okay, got some info on the latest episode of soukou no strain. Contains some speculation and some spoilers:
Now we know why Ralph betrayed the Union. The kind of people that use you to shoot down aliens that look like little girls, then put the living brains of such girls in MIMICs to develop new technology? That's not the kind of people I'd feel comfortable working for. Alas, the only other military potential out in the soukou universe happens to be the Deague, who aren't much better from what I've seen.
Now, it's fairly reasonable to assume that what that last 'Emily' did to Ralph finally convinced him to change sides. But who else thinks it may have altered his physiology as well? This just occurred to me; after what the Emily did, Ralph's developed that long, pale hair just like an Emily alien and the Emily he took out of Glabella immediately seemed to recognize him. Perhaps Ralphie-boy was altered on a genetic level? Might also explain why he's hacking up blood all over the place; maybe the alterations are just imperfect and he's starting to fall apart.

I kinda want to know a little more about the war between the Union and the Deague. Such as why they are at war, or what parts of the universe are under the control of each. The Deague just seems like the stereotypical evil empire with their black ships which are pretty much devoid of light inside. They remind me a lot of the Black Hole from Advance Wars... _________________ "If you're flammable and have legs, you're never blocking a fire exit." -Mitch Hedberg |

| I think neither the Deague nor the Union is very positive. They just have a different colour scheme ... |
