i wanted to know how to deal with this processor overheating stuff........as i just received a call from my cousin asking me about this thing........
according to him, his computer each time auto shutdown after the processor overheated..........
his processor model is pentium 4 3.0ghz and model 478 type mainboard..........
he has send to a computer shop before and was informed that his processor overheated..........
if the problem cannot be solved is there is any processor that fit into the mainboard type??? _________________

Ask him to grab a good processor heatsink. Best if he can use water-cooling system, but that requires lots of space in the casing. _________________

| http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?N=2010340343+50001157+1051707443&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=343 <- that should give you an idea of what fits into a socket 478. Im sure theres more but neweggs probably your best bet if your going to buy online. As for the over heating problem, I would check the heatsink like jsyke said, make sure the thermal paste was applied correctly (if its to thick or to thin it wont properly transfer heat) also you may want to consider changing the fan over the heatsink-> to a more powerful fan. Err if its a dell or somethign it shouldnt be overheating since dell uses a tunnel cooling system and underclocks by 100 mhz or something [maybe the underclocking is just on their notebooks] (but you didnt say it was a dell so Im guessing its premade) oh yeah buying a new heatsink would help if you think your old one is junk, but I would consider checking the thermal paste layer between the heatsink and processor first. |
