No, anime don't control the way we behave, although it might play as an indirect influence on some people --- not because of any powers of its own, but because those people that take it to the extreme have issues to begin with.
That kind of obsession with anything is merely a reflection of a problem that is already present in an individual in the first place. How they react to an anime is only an indicator. If they didn't have an anime to express these deep seeded issues, they would only find something else.

Yes it does
many people i know have changed their way of talking and their attitude
no they didnt change into better they turn perverts
i wasnt aware of this till i watched and got the same thing
i imitata some of the characters and turend into bad girl but thanks to God i returned how i was ... it was when i first watched animes.
i think young children shouldnt have to watch animes and i mean animes all of them...i dont think older will change. _________________ "Blogger"

Yo yeah... we absorb different ways and change of ways of thinking through the environment around us... especielly when we watch a lot of anime. It can cause a change in character...
And I still have nightmares after reading Kuroshiya Ichi...
i personally think that people decide to be infuenced or not by the entertainment they watch or listen to, if you can't realise that your being influenced then you should be careful of what you watch. _________________ [img:350:100:b9d927e767]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/tehalbino/gaara2.png[/img:b9d927e767]
[quote="TheLoneBrit101"]I don't think its impossible. After all, films like the Matrix set people killing others and later claiming that they were simply trying to save their victims from the 'machines'.

I totally agree to what u said about addiction. It is the strength of will n not the IQ. I personally think that IQ allow u to learn or/and think faster than others. A low IQ can outshine a high IQ in his career due to his hardworking character.
I recently watch the whole series of Gantz in one night, it took me 9hr n 10 min to finish it. Imagine watching those killing anime at midnite. Those scene of head exploded into peices and u can still part of his face on the floor; or even when the body get tear into peices; body exploded into half, having his organ hanging on mid air.
After watchin it, i was wondering how this man look like when he cutted into half. Those thinking was like coming out. Haha. But not like I will cut them into half or sort. Just some crazy thinkings.

Thanks for that.
By the way you describe it, it appears that you have a pretty dim view of Gantz (?) and that kind of bloody thing. But for me, I'm all up for it! Even though I haven't seen it yet. Though liking that kind of genre has'nt affected me in any way, it has slightly damaged my relations with others, as they see it as unplesant, so do they judge me in turn for liking it.

as stated before by many other people in this thread whose names i shan't write because i'm too lazy, anime, depending on the person, influences them indirectly. it's not so much that we, the watchers/readers, will imitate rather the anime affects us emotionally thus resulting in nightmares for those who watch/read kuroyashi ichi right du5k?
Take me for example, i've been reading tsubasa chronicles lately and when you just look at the situation it makes you kinda sympathetic towards them (syoaran and sakura) and thus it affects me emotionally, specifically it makes me feel sad so to rectify this situation i, unconsciously or not, do things that make me feel good like eating food, reading stupid manga (Cromartie High School, the stupidest bunch of high schoolers i have ever read about) or just help people cause all those things make me feel happy thus countering my anime-born sadness _________________ ALL HAIL LELOUCH
anything that you spend a lot of time with is going to rub off on you. This goes for friends, hobbies, religious habits, everything. How much these things rub off on you depends partly on how much you identify with them.
So if you watch a really perverted echi anime and it is disturbing to you, it is not going to turn you into a pervert. Watching it could even move you to become more anti-perverted. Let's say you keep watching the show however, and you end up gradually being less and less offended by the perversion just because your used to ignoring it. Well now the effect on you is that you are desensitized to the perversion a bit. Finally after watching the echi show for many years you get a chuckle out of the ocasional mildly perverted scene. Now the effect on you is that you are a mildly perverted person.
I think that everyone needs to spend time self evaluating themselves once in a while as honestly as they can. keeping a journal and reviewing it now and then can also be a good way to help you realize when or how you have changed. Really, it is easy just to kind of just go with the flow of your life and not pay attention to the subtle ways that you gradually change.
Some changes, of course, can be more drastic. After watching a mere 100 episodes of Naruto within a few weeks, I found myself sprinting down my dorm hallway in a croutch to lower my center of gravity for better balance and with my arms held straight behind my back for minimal wind resistance...

Once again I agree to u.. for I can feel how u feel.. my friends they don't watch horror or disgusting anime.. They feel tt I am a weirdo that has weird interest.. haha
And for Martin_G, you mention that if you has a strong belief or rule for urself.. you won't get influence from what u watch.. as u say if u r not pervert, u watch pervert anime, onli make u more anti pervert.. Since you are an anti pervert, y do u still download them? or perhaph u start to get interested in it? so did it still change ur attitude? If every1 has strong belief in themself, and do what theyy used to do.. Y ppl say that time can change a person; a person changed over time sort of things..
Haha, but i still partly agree to u, Martin_G ;P.. if only I have strong stand, wont get influence so easily..
Well, I say that it does affect the way a person lives in a great way. Take me for instance, if I wasn't so into anime then I would probably be the kind of person that only sees women for their bodies and other stuff. However, because of anime I have developed my own honor code that is a combination of chivalry and bushido with a bit of my own style to it. Like in a fight, it is basic male nature to want to fight all out. Some do it just for fun. Because of anime, I have gotten to where the only times that I will fight are to defend what is precious to me. I may perfer to fight with a sword, but that doesn't mean that I will carry one around and try to kill those that think all people who watch what they call "cartoons" are retards or something. The only time that I would fight with a sword is if it is wooden and the other has some skill with it and has one of their own. I will not attack an unready opponent and I will not attack at all unless they are ready and it is to defend what I hold dear. Say like someone was hitting my girl friend, I would be like any other guy and defend her. However, I would always stop the attacker by blocking his target and give him a warning. If he continues, then I will fight bare handed. If he was to pull out a weapon, I would still fight bare handed if I could not get a weapon of my own. I also don't look at girls for their body. I have developed the habit of liking a girl mearly on their personality. Granted I still retain some of human nature and like those that are good looking. But to me, that is only an unneeded bonus. I also don't like to attack those that are weaker than I am unless they are defending what they hold dear and my beliefs contradict his. I will also never hit a woman for I have developed a respect for them and feel that they do not deserve to be hit. Even if they have me a gun point and pinned to the ground, I will not strike a woman. There is more that I have about this, but it's too much to post. But, all of this is due to the fact that I was affected by anime and have altered my lifestyle because of the anime that I have seen. _________________ [IMG:200:40:38fc208c84]http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b131/kawaiidemons/Sumthin%20Nier%20Graphics/Sigs/03922497.png[/img:38fc208c84]

i think that what we watch will always change us somehow. i remember watching death note and feeling more evil everytime after watching it but the reading ichigo 100% and feeling like a dork... so yeah what we watch or read will change us for the better or the worse
I guess anime hasnt really affected me THAT much in real life. Except maybe how i view certain guy/girl situations and stuff. But Thats all cause of the drama/romance ive been watching lately
Some of the animes i've seen, though they havent made me do anything weird, they've always made me wonder what it'd be like to do other things. Like someone above who said they wondered what it'd be like seeing someones blood/veins or something after watching 9 hours of gantz (good series btw ^_^).
After watching shuffle i kinda wondered what it'd be like if i had the whole 'girl next door' thing happen
