If I wasn't wrong anime is origin from Japan, while animation is from America. But it doesn't matter with my question.

In the past, when CounterStrike was popular; I was told that in some countries, people were so addicted to it that they killed people as if they were killing in game. It maybe made up it maybe not. Addicted in gaming was bad, some can don’t sleep for 7 days just to play game. Could anime be so addictive that it controls the person’s thinking.

Cases like people watching “The Third, “Blood+ and “Tokko, will people get the katana and swinging around? Or “Higurashi no Naku Koroni a game that turn into anime, a series murdering anime. Would someone so into it that they create series of murder.

It sounds stupid for my question. People with common sense wouldn’t do it. But will anime be changing our behavior and ways of doing things indirectly? How much they impact our daily life? What do you think, or have you heard of any stories that people after watching certain anime and began doing things that the character did in the anime?

yea different ppl have different set of thinking and behavior. Compare to drama show, anime can be more voilent and realistic. Reason is that drawing can be more detail, it can clearly draw the bone, vein, flesh. It may take more effort to make a model of those details when filming a horror show. Is horror anime more terrify or horror movie?

This sounds a bit like to too much anime thread... well nvm...

Well I saw it in the news once that one guy played CS for 2 days straight, realise that he can't feel his legs and have to amputate it in the end. this really makes you think... if the person is watching anime instead of playing cs, anime has really changed the person's life forever....

I'm not really sure how much it affect other people... but it's true that we learn about guns and other weapons, include martial arts style and fighting techniques, thru anime and games... There's isn't a guy in my class who dunno the meaning of this terms: Thompson, M4A1, Para, AWM, Glock, AA battery, SAM site, etc...

yeah, I kinda agree with that... I'm gonna move this to the General Anime Section only because I don't think this conversation is serious *enough* to be in the Club-AS.

there was the guy who played one of those MMORPGs for like 3 or 4 days without leaving his keyboard. He lived off of energy drinks and never went to the bathroom. He died of a bladder infection or something like that.

haha... if I were a little rich kid in a parent-less house, everyone knows what I would do.... He Is My Master re-enactment!!!

as for me... I don't think anime will influence my behavior in any major way. It may dominant my time and lessen the weight of my wallet, but no different from any other hobby out there. The only small behavior change is I slip in some "nani?"s and "baka"s and "sou ka"s into my everyday speech every now and then.

It really depends on the person if anime will control his life.. Myself for example, I really like watching anime but I always put a borderline when I feel I'm drifting away from reality. Anime, like Games, are not bad as long as the cap will be there or limit.

It do happen but those incidents are isolated. I've watched the flash titled Narutard.. It is a parody for those people who are so crazy about Naruto that they act like those characters in the anime. It is funny but they are to be pitied. They are like outcasts but they need help. Like I said, the person can decide if he will let anime take over his life or not..

This is like the video game topic where politics say its making kids more violent. My opinion is it all depends on the individual. I trust a mature 10 year old kid who can (somewhat) tell the difference between fantasy and reality then the creepy unstable 24 year old adult. I predict in the future there may be a possibility be like a restriction on anime (not a fortune teller so don't cry!) being sold like video games. Besides, there are more things that can influence us besides anime.

hmmmmmm...

Some anime (very good one) affect me emotionally, leading me to an agonising thought over its plot and its implication if it ever become reality...

thats is the closest anime had affacted my behaviour.

Smile

(I am the thick-skinned type, so only a good anime affect me)

of course it depends on the person...wheather its a game or anime.
actually some ppl watch animes without getting along with it
just to entertain theirself and most kind of these ppl dont get effect.

also there are some ppl who take the good effects from animes in other words know how to control theirself ...

but unfortinatly these days (dunno whats got in their mind) especially kids
and teenages since they like adventures (no matter how it is or where) getting more insane ...i've heard alot of crimes b/c of games which contain blood and murders and begin to imitate them (mentaly blind i think). im sure most of them want to cought others eyes, to be attractive
(like they're gonna be).
Still i think weak ppl should avoid watching these kid of animes/games.

for me, well, some people are sooo on to it, they really forget about themselves and worse, hurt themselves.

there was a news here in the Philippines where a ragnarok addict kid around 18-22 killed a fellow player when he did not get that precious item, and that fellow he killed got it.

well, my example was a little bit unrelated to the thread, but if anime-watching is concerned, well, there may be some people who would really live the "anime" life and consider it a reality.

For me, putting borders is important. watching anime and keeping my "self" in the real world is a must.

Hahaha if something like anime affects how a person acts in real life, that person is obviously mentally unstable or not mature enough to watch such anime. Most stuff that gets fansubed are anime targeted towards older teens ~ adults anyway.
I myself didn't get into watching more serious stuff until I was in high school. My first experience of watching a fansub off the internet was around 1999, I remember watching really bad quality video file of evangelion fansub (non-english) which was in realplayer format haha. Compared to that, Youtube looks high definition...

depending on the anime and how well it relates to real life.. it might prepare you in some ways.. Razz
like you'll know wat to expect or something like that..

regarding video games.. the best example i have is the following..

if you play a lot of racing games... and then learn to drive soon after.. and get in to a crash.. experience from the crashes in the games will better prepare you for the real life crash and help you stay calm.. or well something like that...

and about anime like blood+ and such or even watching shows on tv with lots of violence.. will definitely desensitize you..

anime changing my behaviour.. hmmm don't really know...

i think in my case it goes like.. my behaviour determines what animes i watch.. Very Happy

so i have this affinity with sword wielding chicks and gorey scenes.. doesn't mean i will go around killing people now.. unless i have some screws loose in my head then maybe...

but seriously smart people i think don't really get influenced on the way they behave due to animes... Very Happy there might be some influences like their preferences, and some opinions on some matter but ultimately chanign their behavioural patterns is something that strong minded people are less likely to do even if they watch loads of anime.. Very Happy

I don't think its impossible. After all, films like the Matrix set people killing others and later claiming that they were simply trying to save their victims from the 'machines'.

Quote:

Its not a matter of whether you're smart or not, intelligence can only get you so far. There are people who have ridicolously low IQs and yet they are able to excel in their careers. Whether you're smart or not is irrelevant when it comes to addiction. Take drugs as another example. You can find tramps on the road who can speak several different languages; once all highly intelligent people, but who are then swayed by the temptation of drugs and end up losing everything.

Thus, I believe, it comes down to character and strength of will which determines how a person reacts to an anime and whether they become addicted or not.
