| I was really disappointed by this too. Lik-Sang was where I bought most of my DS import games and accessories along with anime and manga starter kits. |

Copying sony? I don't think they did that.. What they did do was sell modchips i believe.. not too sure though.. Pretty sure i read that somewhere. So if you think about it.. Sony doesnt like modchips, Lik-Sang sold them, the clash was going to happen sometime, and then the selling PSP thing to europeans happened.. It just so happened that sony won the clash.. and so lik-sang goes out of business. Sad day for gamers everywhere indeed =( _________________ Mr. Offtopic o_o

No, it was just because they were selling PSPs to europeans. It ridiculous since Sony dosen't lose any profit. IT's ironic that with all their buisness failures they are stopping people from selling psps. _________________ Official winner of the A-S Worst Thread Ever Award

Really? I was pretty sure they did. My bad. Forgot to comment about the old news too. =/ .. Well i guess its not THAT old.. that aside, I guess one way we can view what happened with the PSPs is that Lik-Sang found a loophole around Sony's announcement/policy thing, and Sony got mad, and basically acted childishly and was like, you're going down, I don't care if we're making money off you. _________________ Mr. Offtopic o_o

Sony's been really going downhill these days in their public relation department. There have been just too many problems they've been facing. Rootkit controversy, battery recalls, inability to make a decent mp3 player, terrible (often illegal) ad campaigns, and their rotten legal policies... it has really brought down the level of trust I have in Sony these past few years. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

They did sell modchips, but modchips are 100% legal. It only illegal when the user pirates games with it. Just like it's legal to make emlulators, but to to use the roms.

I was referring to this case.. I knew it was old.. but I didn't think it was THIS old... http://archives.cnn.com/2002/TECH/fun.games/12/16/gamers.liksang/index.html
Also, they might be legal, but once you sell something like this, the companies take notice of you, and they'll probably keep a closer look at you than others, and I guess many of us saw it coming. Lik-Sang vs Sony? We all wanted Lik-Sang to win, but we all knew Sony was going to win in the end. The odds were jsut stacked against Lik-Sang. _________________ Mr. Offtopic o_o

Thats' where you're wrong, they DO lose profit. Because of the market, Sony have to sell PSP's (And probably PS3's) cheaper over in Japan, if people are buyin them from overseas, then when the european release arrives, whos' going to buy it?
Probably not the best explaination, but you get the rough idea. |

Interestingly enough, most of the high executives of Sony Europe bought their PSPs from Lik-Sang, over nine months before the Lawsuit.
The list of PSP related Sony Europe orders reads like the who's who of the videogames industry, and includes Ray Maguire (Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Alan Duncan (UK Marketing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Chris Sorrell (Creative Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Rob Parkin (Development Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited), just to name a few.
So much for them being worried about losing money.
And no, the PSPs are just barely cheaper in Japan. The people who would buy their PSPs from Lik-Sang were the hardcore fans who just couldn't wait for the release, not the common consumer. Now those fans are so pissed at Sony they aren't going to buy PSPs at all. When Lik-Sang sells a PSP they have to buy it from Sony, so it's not like they actually are losing money. And actually Lik-Sang had to sell the PSPs at the same price that they sell for in Europe anyway to maintain a profit margin, therefore Sony wasn't in danger of losing European sales due to lower online prices as was stated above. _________________ Official winner of the A-S Worst Thread Ever Award
