hey in some cultures they eat rats and toads, and snakes are definitely a delicacy and often used in chinese medicine. how is that a punishment??!
The sins were used in the early Cristian teachings as a method of keeping the followers of the Roman Catholic Church from straying off the "path". As this was, at the time, directed mainly on Europe, the thought of eating rats and snakes and whatnot was revolting. Even more so when you think about the fact that rats were the ones who were responsible for spreading the Black Death.

I can't believe it! This thread has been dead for weeks! But it has risen to haunt us all again!
Now that I know what you're sins are; I present to you all, the supposed punishment awaiting all of you in HELL!!!!
Pride: You will be tucked between the spokes of a cart-wheel and as it slowly revolves, you will be beaten by a hammer!
Envy: Placed in freezing water and left there!
Wrath: Dismembered alive!
Sloth : Thrown in snake-pits!
Greed: Put in pots of boiling oil!
Gluttony: Forced to eat rats, toads, lizards and snakes!
Lust: Smothered in fire and brimstone!

is that from Dante's Inferno? There's a myspace-survey going around where you answer some questions and it tells you what level of hell you're going to based on your answers. I can't remember the details too much, but I know that people guilty of Lust get bannished to the Level II (that's what I got), where they are forever blown around in a tornado and molested by the wind..... sounds kinky -_______-
... although, I fail to see how that's punishment for someone who enjoys sexual pleasure... I guess you'd get tired of it after a day or so.
I wish I could remember more... I should find it. I know the first two areas ahead of me were kinda tame, but as you get deeper and deeper in, you get poked and prodded more and engulfed in flames. One level you have to sloth around in mud and poop... gross... I think it was for the greedy people. And, surprisingly to me, the deepest level of Hell is ice cold. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)

xeno - I took that quiz and it can be found here if anyone wants to have a go at it: http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-test.mv
The wretched King Minos (whoever he is) has decided my fate, and I am to be banished to...the Fith Level of Hell!!
The river Styx runs through this level of Hell, and in it are punished the wrathful and the gloomy. The former are forever lashing out at each other in anger, furious and naked, tearing each other piecemeal with their teeth. The latter are gurgling in the black mud, slothful and sullen, withdrawn from the world. Their lamentations bubble to the surface as they try to repeat a doleful hymn, though with unbroken words they cannot say it. Because you lived a cruel, vindictive and hateful life, you meet your fate in the Styx."
There are nine levels overall, and mine falls under wrathfull and gloomy *sigh*Damn prediction got it exactly right!
I know it's fun to play like you're a badass and brag about your sins, but all jokeing aside please continue to grow by strengthening the seven blessed behaviors in your own lives and in those of your loved ones.
Oh, and please remeber how important it is to keep your promises unless you change your mind.
Charon ushers you across the river Acheron, and you find yourself upon the brink of grief's abysmal valley. You are in Limbo, a place of sorrow without torment. You encounter a seven-walled castle, and within those walls you find rolling fresh meadows illuminated by the light of reason, whereabout many shades dwell. These are the virtuous pagans, the great philosophers and authors, unbaptised children, and others unfit to enter the kingdom of heaven. You share company with Caesar, Homer, Virgil, Socrates, and Aristotle. There is no punishment here, and the atmosphere is peaceful, yet sad.
