I'm using a wireless broadband called smartbro....company by SMART in phillippines.....
I like to asked a question about the internet connection speed.......and here it is.....
my question is.....I'm using 384kps internet connection and my download speed in bittorrent 15 to 40kps .....
Is this my limit speed? _________________ "HITSUZEN-A naturally foreordained event.

i'm not quite sure how bandwidth speeds are measured myself, but from personal experience, your actual d/l speeds will be much lower than your bandwidth capacity. you can use bandwidth speed tests available for free at places like www.dslreports.com or the like to see your max speeds, but dont expect to be able to d/l that fast.
for reference, tests usually put my connection (advertised as 6Mbit) anywhere from 4-5.5MBit. my highest recorded d/l speed has been in the 1.2mbps area.
also, if you're using a 100mbit router, i doubt it's the cause of any speed loss. _________________
There are 8 bits in one byte. And as you may have already known, kilo = 1000. So if you have 384kbps downstream and want to see the theoretical speed you could download, 384,000/8 = 48,000 bytes per second, or rather 48KB/s.
Your speed could differ depending on the equipments that are being used and the distance between you and the server. You may also be getting slower speed because your capped upstream is probably all in use or the downstream is fighting against the upstream for bandwidth. This may also be known as bottlenecking lol. A general rule for maintaining good speed on your Bit Torrent downloads is to set your upload speed at least around 20% lower than your maximum upload speed.
I've been to a couple of internet cafes in the Philippines and the internet connections suck. I wouldn't be surprised if 40KB/s download is the fastest you could get over there. How much are you paying for the service, btw?
