I liked zero no tsukaima as well, in response to an earlier post. The setting is REALLY good and it has an interesting storyline. Although right now it has only 13 eps, they'll air at least a second season.

another thing DEFINITELY to watch is Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.
Death Note lovers will LOVE this. It currently has 13 eps, still on air.

Compared to the other series from the same maker, I like Shakugan no Shana more.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is the must see of 2006, in my opinion

guess I'll take a walk back through 2006... I recommend most, if not all of the following:

watched all:
- The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya... highly recommend
- Magikano... highly recommend
- Sky Girls OVA... it was alright
- Negima!? Haru OVA... it was alright

watched most/some:
- Kashimashi ~ Girl Meets Girl... I really enjoyed it
- Inukami!.... totally in love... waiting for the last few episodes
- Happiness!.... a great series, I'm anxious to see more
- Negima!?.... another great series, can't wait for more

watched just a few:
- Zero no Tsukaima... will definitely watch more
- Black Lagoon... saw first episode, it was great, will prolly watch more
- Galaxy Angel Rune... I was totally psyched for this, but the fansubs stopped after the first episode
- NHK ni Youkoso... not sure if I'll finish
- Ergo Proxy... was interesting, but not my forte
- Utawarerumono... was interesting, but not my forte
