I have a friend who's computer is able to turn on, but the monitor does not. Every once in a blue moon, he is able to get the monitor to work also. He has tried switching monitors and it still does the same thing. Could it be that the video card is dying?

It's been like that for my computer as well. My motherboard is pretty old. I don't know if it's the same reason as your friend's computer, but my computer does it when the RAM sticks are kinda loose in its slots, the IDE ribbons are loose, or the video card is loose. The slots for the stuff I've mentioned may be dusty.

Swap out a vid card with someone else and see if it works. That'll isolate the possibility of the video card going bad.

or if that doesnt work it may mean that there is a route to the slot that has been damaged/severd i think thats what happened to my old comp it only live for a year then it stoped starting _________________ Want advice DONT WORK AT WALMART... Theres your freebie... |

check the connect between the video card and motherboard. or buy another video card. There are about 4 type of video card, but now 2 most popular is AGP and PCI express. check the compatable kind video card of your motherboard and buy a correct one
