My favorite audio player is amaroK.

On Windows, Winamp sounds better than WMP, for me anyway. The user interface is clean, small, and simple. Millions of skins out there available. Though, I'm only talking about the Classic version of Winamp as I'm not too fond of the Modern version. I do a lot of things with my keyboard so the shortcut keys is a must and Winamp delivers that. There are plenty of plug-ins out there that are pretty nifty as well. And even though I haven't tried it, you can broadcast stream (internet radio) with Winamp.

Windows Media Player is bloaty unless you switch to some compact mode skin. Even then, you're still stuck with their visualization when playing songs unless you've found a way to disable it. Adding songs to playlist doesn't feel natural. Same goes for controls and shortcuts; and video files.

I've never tried the Windows version of iTunes. But on Macs, I say blah to them. It just feels too restrictive or limiting, and not pretty (I'm quite picky how the GUI looks when you're going to use the application so frequently). I feel kind of sad seeing how people have to stick with such a player with no choice just so they could work with their iPods. Well, that's all I can say about iTunes. I don't know much about its memory usage.

I feel sorry for the people who are using VLC or MPC to play their song files. Sorry ^_^; I've played audio files on MPC before and it sounds like they've flatten the sound on the audio or they just don't do any playback enrichments. The difference between MPC and Winamp on audio files are quite noticeable. MPC is superbly great for playing video formats, however. Winamp is not. VLC is good with videos, better than Windows Media Player, but not so great.

My 2 cents.

I have used winamp for at least 10 years and I love it. It's simple and clean. The only time I doubted was with Winamp 4... which was awful. Now Winamp 5 is back on track, following the legacy of Winamp 3 Wink

The best thing about winamp is you can configure it as a system tray icon only leaving your task bar free.

For videos, I'm mostly with WMP / VLAN... I hate Itunes with a passion. How can music playing software be that damn of a big ressource eater... Crazy !

Windows media player and Sonique......

I find they both have their positives and negatives....I originally started off with sonique, as it is a very well put together program with a sleak interface, but with the constant updating of WMP I have begun using that program.

I still feel that sonique provides the best sound quality of all the players.

I was so used to iTunes before I went back to using a PC and I haven't looked back Razz.

For my audio, I use primarily Windows Media Player (v10). For some reason in 11, I do not come across an option to find the location of lost files (like you can in 10).

For broadcasting my radio streams online, I use Winamp.

For my video, I use VLC Media Player (best stuff in the world Razz).

Winamp is alot better music wise, does what you need it to do, play music straightaway and better equalizer settings than others imo.

Right now i'm using two players, one is Zoom Player, my favorite for playing .avi formats, then my recently updated WMP11, for my musics, like the color and the way the buttons are placed, hard getting used to it though Confused

I use mainly WMP 11, and sometimes change over to Winamp. I had a bad experience with i-Tunes so i don't touch it . For video files i use WMP Classic, and the latest K-Lite codec pack. It handles just about every video file out there.
