| I believe the story to be more fun than Death Note and Kanon but that's just me. |
They're gonna be hard to compare considering how different they are - I haven't watched the new season of Kanon so I can't say much about it.
Started picking up the drama now - At least I would say that the pacing, characters, atmosphere etc all play out better in the drama. Especially Stressman.[/spoiler] |

| A question first though: who plays Nodame in the live-action?? |
Whoops. Sorry, I didn't get to this question sooner. Nodame is performed by Juri Ueno. She portrays Nodame very well, I might add. |
Ueno Juri had history playing the piano before, so it was easier for her to adapt, though she still had to go for special training for the Nodame role. She also acted in a movie called swing girls (a small jazz orchestra band) XD
but seeing real life actors playing the orchestra will definitely smack the anime down to earth. No anime can beat life action in that area, especially when the life action was directed so well. |

I really love the series. Besides Fruits Basket and, coincidentally, Honey & Clover, it's the only series that made me laugh so hard it actually hurt.
I enjoy the classical music as well, since it brought back memories of when I played those pieces, and got to watch the conductor chew out other sections since bass parts were usually easy. |

this series is making me very attached to nodame due to her antics on milch when comes to herself, and chiaki is also as arrogant as usual but is changing when he met nodame and he is no longer selfish anymore _________________

I don't understand either. I think they've been spoiled by seeing animations like Ghost in the Shell movie or maybe the way they view or appreciate arts is very lacking...
I'm glad the director who did Honey & Clover picked up this anime because I really miss Honey & Clover. Morita Shinobu is my favorite character. And when I saw Chiaki, I felt that his look resembles of Morita. Then, seeing how how Nodame's persona was very similar to Morita's, I just can't help but think that Chiaki + Nodame = Morita . |

Hmmmm, i think most people would agree that the animation isnt this animes strong suit - the characters blatantly dont maintain proportions when the viewing angle changes. That said, when the story is good, average animation mysteriously becomes much nicer as well. |

just watched epi 7. I like this anime because its so light-hearted and its comedy is pretty funny too. I love the OP and ED it matches this anime almost perfectly. _________________ [IMG:350:100:fd0c78d353]http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/3054/beck3jk.png[/img:fd0c78d353]

| Hmm...I'm confused...they appear to be using different music scores in the anime (Beethoven's Symphony No.3) and the drama (Beethoven's Symphony No.7). Is this to broaden people's horizons on classical music? |

Could be... The anime's use of Eroica has definite story links (what with the whole Napoleon thing). Not sure about the drama as I haven't seen it, but, if they've used different music, that would suggest to me that the progression of the story is (at least slightly) different. It could be that that's to do with not wanting to reduce their audiences by splitting them, more than any grand educational intentions, though...
Are there English subs for the drama out there anywhere? |

i just finish watching ep's 1-7, and i'm freaking addicted. it had piqued my interest when i saw the H&C art style, and the characters sold me from ep 1. slice-of-life isnt normally what i jump all over, but the comedy and character interactions here are all excellent and have me drooling for more. _________________

started watching this and i think its great. characters are uniquely made and everything. I think it was based on a drama i saw the drama and the whole thing was almost identical. . |

The other way round actually - it's a manga that was created into a drama first, then into an anime.
Melancoholic, with regards to the previous comment I'm not so sure about the story links personally, as the Napoleon thing seems to have been played out rather weakly in the anime - at least it hasn't been brought forwards so much as to make it something definitive to the story.
If anything, the Symphony no.7 Chiaki conducts at this point in the drama is also the last piece he conducts in the Christmas concert before leaving Japan, though I guess the piece can be interchangeable
I also just realised, Chiaki starts off conducting the Symphony No.7 when Nodame knocks out Streseman in the beginning...was it necessary to change the pieces? I think I'm just attached to this piece now having heard it so much to think of it as anything different =P |

Absolutely brilliant anime.
It brings classical music to peoples ears in a new way.
As a musician, I'm glad to see how much effort they put in making this (especially the orchestra scenes).
So far, the best animation of music is in Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiyas band scenes, but if one want's to make a whole series with music fully synched to the instruments, it would be a waste of time and money. _________________ Dude! Jude! <[^,,^]> |
