Would you die for your country?

I'm calling myself a patriot and my first reaction on this question was YES. But then I began thinking about it. Would I be able to take a gun for example and go to the front line? Would I be able to go killing other people even if the'll be hurting my country? I love my country, I'm pround on its history, its heroes, its fight for independence for over centuries. I'm proud about my nationality and I won't move elsewhere, regardless that our political or economical situation isn't now the best one. But would I be able to fight and die for it? If here'll be a mobilization, if they'll give me a gun into my hands and say go, I will. But I think that I probably won't go to army myself. If I'll have the option to choose, I'll probably stay back. But I'll involve myself in a morale war. War that isn't made with guns, but with words, writing, propaganda, increasing morale of those that will be braver than I and that will really go to die for the country. Showing the history of this country and this nation in the light that will hit hearts of everybody that is calling himself a czech. And if writing in a such way would end with a punishment of death, then I will die with a knowledge that I die for my country too. And I won't be sorry of my life.

And for what I'll do that? Not for the people in the government, not for our laws, not for our economy, but for our name. For the name of this country, for its history, for the heroes that were dying during fights for freedom and independencefor us, for the nation, for our place on map, for our place in history, to not be forgotten.

Btw. I'm sorry that weapons are so developed. I would like fight with a sword, but guns are ... nothing for me. In medieval wars your life depended on your ability to fight. Today it depends more on luck if some of the bullets won't hit you or if some bomb won't fall on your house.

So, my final answer is still YES. I will die for my country if it will be endangered by somebody else, if future of my country and nation will be uncertain.

Reasons: (Though has a quite some humour)

1. I'm too young to die
2. I'm scared when it comes to fighting with guns and stuffs, though I like watching them XP

I really wouldn't die for my country.
Wouldn't matter where I lived either.
I think wars and stuff like that are just bullshit. It's just someone crazy who likes to kill who decides that crap.
Anyway, even if the population of the world grew waaay too much, I think I'd be too chicken to kill myself Razz

An accident would be ok though.
But then again, killing yourself (or dying) has an effect on others aswell.
So hmm.

if it was just for the sake of protecting the govemental figure heads, than there would be no way i hell i would die for my country. however, if it is for the sake of protecting my family and the ones i love, than yes, i believe that i would gladly die to protect them.

To die for the current government, definitely no. To die for my country and the idea it once represented and can again, through it's citizens (if they would get off their lazy a@@es and voted and lobbied and make a difference). To die for the my family and friends, because they are citizens of that country and would be targeted/hated just for that reason, though they may disagree with what the current government is doing, Yes.

Well, i live in sweden. Which is a great country where we have all the good thingys like regulations on who gets guns and free healthcare and stuff like that. I love living here where i live because of the scenery (in the north of sweden amongst the mountains and the snow, currently about 1,2meters) But just because the country is great i wouldn't die for it. That is just stupid!

Hell no i would not. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." is the biggest load of bull S*** i have ever heard. i mean seriously its like brainwashing or something... anyway i think wars are stupid and for the most part pointless they usually just happen when the people in power have a big disagreement and arent smart enough to talk it out. right now im in the us and the war in iraq? waste of us resources, do i think we should pull out? no now that the country is committed we Have to stay that way or else several bad things raise in probability... anyway no i would Not die for this or any country.

BTW I live in Norway, so I probably don't have the same bond to my country that some other countries have.
