A funny arguement that always happens with me and a friend. Whenever my friend talks about Bleach I always go "You and your bleach" and he goes "You and your Hellsing". We always mock each other saying one is better while the other sucks. Just today, a friend of mine said Hellsing sucked and was pointless and I got so defensive that I backed up with my many reasons why its good and gave him a poke.
So any of you guys get defensive over an anime that someone hates and why?

What hellsing do you get defensive about? The original? I think it was pretty bad in terms of storyline and character development...
Anyway, I tend to get defensive on Fafner, the "Eva clone" which I liked a lot better than Eva even though I DID watch eva first. I don't get too defensive, though, and tend to give up easily.

I think the only time I argued with someone in person over an anime was when my friend said that Magikano was nothing but fan-service. I was like... "there's like 2 scenes in which there's ecchi and that's it. The rest is an interesting magic-users romantic-comedy that is pretty well done."
I can't count internet battles cause that number is astronomical... that's what happenes when nerds congregate.

....Well, I want to vote...but then the problem is my option isn't there. My answer would be, "No, I will not defend those shows. I don't respect those people's opinions, but then I don't really care". I mean, if I see someone saying that, "Monster sucked. DBZ is better". (and trust me, I have heard a few people said that)....it would be impossible for me to respect that kind of stupid opinion. So I just read...and laughed at them and ignored them.
The only two occasions when I will respect the opinions of people who disliked something I like is when I know that I enjoyed the show for the wrong reason, or those anime are one of those controversial love-it or hate-it works. To elaborate more about the first occasion, I will give one example. I like Last Exile, but that anime has tons of flaws. If one day, I see some people explaining the flaws of Last Exile very elaborately (and when I say elaborately, I really mean it, given that I myself am also a person who is able to explain (and support) my opinions very elaborately. If I see a person discussing the flaws of LE (with good evidences) very well, I will respect that opinion. However, if someone just said, "Last Exile sucked. Full stop."....then I don't care about what they say.
As for second occasion, they only apply for anime which are controversial. For example, Mind Game, Kemono Zume, Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection, Koi Kaze, FLCL et.c. Anime which people can either love or hate. But those anime are quite rare.

The anime I get defensive when insulted are Gundam Wing, FMP Series and Rekka no Honou. I do get angry on those who insults it very badly but if they are voicing their opinions, I respect them. My bestfriend and I argue on our favorite animes but we got into an agreement to respect each other's liked animes.

sorry but i couldn't help doing this...... so would this be evidence that would help me prove you are a vamp not an angel?
anywho to stay on topic, i got kinda defensive with ichigo 100% cause a friend of mine (a girl) and I were arguing about why i like the show and i told her it was because of the storyline and she replied that i watched it for the fanservice and i was using the storyline as the excuse. normally this would be true but not for this one, i watched or rather read the manga for the storyline cause under all that...fanservice... is a rather interesting plot and it does have some sad parts to it too.

Leo- He only said about Hellsing in general. I told him that the TV series did sucked and make a half hour rant about why the manga and Hellsing Ultimate is so good. Then I made fun of him and death note by calling him a Notie. Though I wasn't saying anything bad about Death note.

Me and a good friend of me always mock each other anime choices. But it's nothing serious. Though with some in my class i just ask them why they don't like it and than i say why i like it. Not really to defensive or anything i guess.
So i guess i just respect other people choices... except for my friend that is hehe  But as i said its not serious. And meh.. as much as i mocked the stuff he recommended me.. i somehow watched them all. And liked some of it. And i still mock his choices

When people voice have good reason/s to not like the anime, I usually respect that and leave it at that, coz you can' expect eveyrone else to like anime I like. Though it annoys me when they are bashing~ so then I retaliate  Althogh it's not often I do.

For the most part I respect other peoples choices, anime or otherwise. But there are still many things that I just dont understand why people like it so much. In this case, animes like Bleach, Naruto (especially Naruto), DBZ. I fail to see why they are so immensely popular when so many other better animes go unnoticed....but then again, most likely people say the same things about all my favorite animes. Noir, Tsuikhime, Strawberry Panic!, Maria sama ga Miteru, Ayashi no Ceres, Kannazuki no Miko. I dont make it a point to attack the likes of others because I myself do not want to have my tastes frowned upon. But in the few instances where my favoirte animes are directly attacked, I do get a little hot headed sometimes....but only if the opposing opinion was given in ignorance and in complete disrespect for a fellow otakus anime selection. It it was a real disagreement about animation quality or story problems and the other party is knowledgable and has at the very least seen an episode, then I will most likely remain calm. But if you attack my choices in ignorance, you better run.

I certainly agree with that. I can take constructive criticism on my favorite animes but direct insults with ignorance like "FMP Sucks", it is like disrespecting my opinion on why I like it.
I don't mind criticism as long as it can explain why they don't like the show in a good-mannered way. I respect those who do it.

why i would get mad on something im not creating it
and i will accept others criticism since im not losing anything nor im gaining ...
well if ur asking me wheather i insult others or mok on their favorit animes then it depends on the person i talk with.

Me, I don't mind, but if they butcher the name or can't pronounce it close enough, I kind of get unnerved. Don't know why, but I dont' say anything. That's why I usually avoid going to Anime Expos and stores that are full of Otakus (Mainly caucasian kids) that try so damn hard to be Japanese.
But yeah, I don't know why naruto, DBZ, Cowboy Bebop, and Bleach are so popular. they're okay, and only popular because US companies butcher it by dubbing it with horrible voice actors. My brothers watch the dubbed One piece, naruto and all. And then they ask me what happens later on. Don't know why when I have it in original Japanese with subs. Big question mark, plus they're WAY behind.
