New animes or just old ideas resurfacing?

To add to the definition of plot:
(From Dictionary.com) "In fiction, the story of a play, novel, romance, or poem, comprising a complication of incidents which are gradually unfolded, sometimes by unexpected means." No mention of 'main' story in this definition.

Anyway back to the topic at hand.
Whilst there are a lot of familiar themes in recent anime it doesn't mean that there aren't original series. Take Genshiken for example. Bleach has a very familiar feel but has a few new idea in it.

It's hard to imagine that there are many true origional new animes/movies/shows/etc. Most of what's new is copying something or other from another, and the spin making it different from the rest lies in the originality and imagination of the creator.

the only one i feel this way about is rahxephon. i couldnt help but make comparisions to evangelion as i was watching it. it was still good... but i enjoyed it less than i could have if i didnt have some annoying voice screaming 'NGE RIPPOFF!' in the back of my head.

nge came before rahxephon right? if i got it wrong, then switch the stuff above accordingly so it makes sense.

It's hard to come up with "original" plots nowadays.. but if you can take a used plot and tinker around with it, it can become pretty much your own.

I agree, it's kinda hard to come up with so called original plan nowadays. What's with all various millions of plots out there. So I think the best one can do is to put his/her own twist on such a master plot.

If an anime series were to be created with -total- originality, you'd end up with something pretty darn insane.. (Imagine Excel Saga, without the neat parody references to other animes)

IMHO, I don't mind when a series isn't super original. It tells me beforehand whether I think I'd like it or not. Lack of originality is what creates genres, in the first place. *shrug*

Well its hard to beat the original: in terms of story, scenes etc.
But lets admit that the new animes try their best to be somewhat unique, maybe the same love hate relationship for example, but different styles and approach to the audience. Like i said nothing beats the original but if we just stay and stick with the original, don't you thnk it will be kind of boring Rolling Eyes
