I'm having a BT crisis!
I'm using Bit Tornado to download the anime torrent files. In the past was working like a charm until, until *sobs* the Taiwan quake. I taught it was due to the submarine cables being repaired so I let it be.
I have not been able to download any files from most fansub groups with the exception of DB and Shinsen-Subs. All others files will oepn but either can't connect to tracker or say operation reset by peer or connection timed out (I can leave it on for more then 6 hours and it still won't connect).
My net connection is back to normal now that the repairs to the submarine cable are complete but my BT porblem still presists.
I have not changed any setting in my BT client and my port setting is set to random.
Please help. Desperately wants to watch anime! *sobs, sobs, cries, wails.....* |

Thanks Jsy3k.
I've done that and so far it's allowing me to download but at a very slow rate.
While I'm grumbling at the slow rate, I am happy that I can download now! |

Perhaps try Bitcomet? I have both Bitcomet and Utorrent. Sometimes Utorrent gets connection refused, while i can just download with Bitcomet.. Yea its strange.. And i have no idea why either... _________________ [IMG:430:120:e3eaef3cc8]http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s100/Sephi2K7/Signature/Yurisigv1b.jpg[/img:e3eaef3cc8] |

That's good to hear, but that is strange that the speed is not coming back..... How about your internet website loading? Is it going slow? _________________

That's the funny thing, website loading and streaming vids from youtube is back to normal.
Is there a way to check if my ISP is blocking torrent downloads? That's starting to become a sneaking suspicion.
That's weird about uTorrent and BitComet. I'll give it a try Renzoken. |

Try to download a very popular anime torrent (Bleach, maybe) and see how much speed you have. If possible, try to wait for around 1-2 hours and see your speed. If it is not as per usual, then you may safely presume that your ISP may be blocking your torrent download.
Or of course, it could be your setting.... >_> _________________

Did that already.
Previously it would take me 1-2 hours.
Now it takes me 5-6 hours.
I get a lot of seeds but the speed is not there.
Would it be a good or bad idea to set my port to 80?
I'm using the default settings that came with uTorrent. Also the port is not blocked (I don't know the correct jargon for this, but the little icon to indicate my network connection, it is green) it is connecting properly. |

I use to download with Azueres and have the same problem.
switched over to Utorrent and everything was fixed.
On U torrent if you don't get the green icon within a couple of min or on startup shut it down and open it again till you get the green icon or change the random port to a new one. |

The official BitTorrent merged with µTorrent. And since a lot of people prefer µTorrent, you can install µTorrent to get your anime fix. |

to answer your question directly, no. you do not necessarily need to have bittorrent to download anime as many fansub groups have multiple routes of distribution. there are also several sites that host http downloads (straight from your browser, no other program needed) as well as the other file sharing programs. the 2nd (maybe first) most common route of anime distribution is IRC.
that said, BT is generally the easiest and most reliable route of anime download. you can leave it on in the background for however long it takes to download since BT is auto-resuming should anything happen to your internet connection during the download. it is also nearly malware (virus, trojan, spyware, other bad stuff) free as many people are downloading/uploading the exact same file to one another. this helps to insure that you actually get what you think you are getting.
if you are new to anime and anime downloading, i would highly suggest getting BT. _________________

ok guys i have a problem with downloading torrents. when i search for animes (ex: mai-hime, maburaho, zero no tsukaima) on BT, i dont come up with any results. its starting to make me mad. im about to just delete bittorrent and stick with Bitlord, or try out other programs. Bitlord has results whenever i search but it seems to be getting slower nowadays. and plus i dont like the fact that its license is adware _________________ [IMG:192:154:5c8a51147b]http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n19/GiggityZZ/wall08_resize.jpg[/img:5c8a51147b] |
