- Turn of XP firewall in sp2
- get a faster connection
- make sure a good amount seeds and peers are on the file
- configure the settings on the BT client to get optimal speed.
Ok so I turned off the windows firewall, have a T1 line (shhh, I'm at work), and I'm still downloading like a snail (0-8 kb/s average). I'm using bittorrent 3.9....something is that really the problem or am I overlooking something?

Whether you reach maximum speed of BT download for your type of connection also depends on:
- The number of other nodes in that torrent. The greater the number, the more nodes there are to share with you.
- The location ( netwise ) of those other nodes. If those nodes are a trillion hops away from you or through a gateway which is closed off to you, you will have at the most, a poor connection to them.
- How much upload those other nodes have configured for themselves. If there are only 10 other nodes and they each only configured to upload 2 KB/s, the most optimistic maximum download you can get is 20 KB/s. That is why BT users are encouraged to spare as much upload as possible.
