Zipang's Synopsis & Reviews on Anime-Source
This naval series initially reminded me of Final Countdown. A modern Japanese cruiser gets sent back in time and finds itself in the middle of the Battle of Midway (June 1942). This series is interesting from a historical perspective and also because anything having to do with the military is a hot topic of debate in Japan. Some may recall that about 10 years ago the Japanese government actually debated over whether a submarine manga entitled 'Chinmoku no Kantai' should be banned as Japan was not allowed to have offensive military weapons.
I'm not familiar with the Deph fansub group but I wish them well on a project that may not be very popular with the younger crowd. The sysop over in the Comics and Anime forum on Compuserve is ex-navy so you can find a more detailed synopsis with some interesting comments in this thread here. I'll see if I can get some pics for the review section here this week and I'll be curious to see what others think of the series. _________________ [IMG:119:90:283352dc7f]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e36/Tank252ca/HoiHoiSanPointing.gif[/img:283352dc7f]Tank252ca |

Well, Tank252ca, we got the pictures but we need a synopsis for this site. Anyone willing to write up one for submission and approval is welcome
All I know is that this series ( and other mangas about the Japanese actions in WW2 ) tends to draw up lots of controversies in Japanese and non-Japanese BBS's. |

| I think they touch on the issue of resupply around episode 6. Not much happens in the first episode. It's more of an introduction of characters with the ship winding up in the past at the end. From the people I've been chatting with I heard that the creators have been fairly accurate in their research, with correct insignia for all officers and an accurate layout of both the exterior and interior of the ship. |

A modern cruiser probably won't stand a chance in a gun fight but stand off attacks such as a missle strike would be invaluable. Plus they have huge bonus in detection capabilities not to mention hindsight of history.
Just tell the Japanese where the carriers were at during Midway =P |

I am really interested to see where this anime goes. The writers of this anime have delved into a chapter of history that the Japanese aren't too proud of and may cause some controversy. It will be great to see how well the story goes with history. If the Agis cruiser follows along with the Battleship Yamoto's real history, this story might take place during the battle of Okinawa where the Yamoto was sunk.
I just love the plot twists so far:
An American designed and built Agis cruiser operated by the Japanese Navy is on a training mission with its allies, the Americans. It gets sent back in time to WWII and the crew has to decide wether to get involved in messing with history, breaking thier alliance with the U.S., and fighting in a battle where they were going to be (historically) defeated.
Wild!
I'll definately be watching!
Keep up the great work on the website here! It's my homepage!
Later all!

| Man, episode 1 was amazing. I'm very interested to see where this anime will go. Especially since I just covered Japan and WWII in my East Asian History class. This is a real treat for me! |
