i think of chinese, japanese, korean, vietnemese and laotian (if i have to narrow it down any)

but i don't really think very specifically about countries when someone says "asian" or "oriental"

i work with two azn's... one is Lao the other is american Wink

(she was born and raised here in town... her parents may be very much more lao,chinese,whatever but she isn't very authentic. doesn't even know how to use chopsticks hehe)

oh, ddogt432's brother made me an "honourary asian" Wink

so yeah, i'm an a-s azn hehe (=

In England, asians are all people who come from the East, chinese, vietnamese, japanese, Indian etc but we call people who are chinese, vietnamese, japanese etc chinks.

chinks is supposed to be a derogitory name.. but when i lived in cali, we just sed it when speaking bad about a different asian race..and its kinda like nego.. bad if someone else says it but doesnt matter if your the one saying it... i dont know if any of that made any sense... but w/e.. same goes with the term japs... some ppl think its derogitory(atleast here in the US) but i refur to my self as jap.. just b/c im to lazy to say japanese.. to long of a name.. especialy when your typing...

I had never even heard of the term "chink" until now! It doesnt sound too nice though, I think I would get offended if I was called that. Mind you, it doesnt take a lot to offend me! Razz

There arent really very many asian people around here, though.

Well negro in England if an offensive word, but because the majority of asian people are chinese and vietnamese, we just call them chink for short, not offensive to me. For indian people we used to call them paki, but now we call them asian.

I suppose. Some people here still call Indian people "Paki". It wouldnt be so bad if they werent trying to be hurtful, but they are. I wish they'd stop it... Crying or Very sad

yeha.. i dont like being refured to as chinks only b/c it usually refurs to chinese or viet, and sometimes korean.. any of which i dislike being mistaken as.... hence when someone calls me jap, im cool with it...

Yeah, its really annoying when someone mistakes your nationality. Its happened tons of times to me.

Shortened names are ok (for example, people here in Scotland get called Scots) but I hate it when a really racist name is made up for someone who looks different. I wish we could all just get along!
