Well, this just came to my mind and I'm just wondring what people think about China. Are they the strongest? Are they the richest? Mosty powerful, perhaps? _________________ Life is full of truth, but I'd rather live in lies. Off the top of my head, no. They are not even close to being the most powerful in any sense. Economically, as Bowser stated, they are 4th most powerful, but their system has some major flaws in it that does not allow it to seriously gain any strength. As far as education however, they do a fairly good job as far as I know. With military, they just have one. Their large population is more of a curse than anything else, as it gets in the way of much of their progress. For one a huge part of them are in poverty because they cannot sustain that much life. Thats everything that I can think of right now.... _________________ Miku Miku!!

Well compared to the U.S, they're getting much better. I mean, we're in debt. No question about it. China is taking George Washington's advice/going back to old ways by isolating itself. It's taking all it can and saving it. I think the later result will be its cackle of revenge. Quoting someone I can't remember a name, and will probably not get quote right but general idea is there, "China has the potential to be the greatest country in the world, if only a Napoleon can rise up and lead it there,"
i would have to say its a global power, but not the best. the reason is that since China is so huge and has a huge population. The farther West you go, the worse off the people are. There are alot of rural areas in China who are not modernized at all. The China that people see are the Eastern areas where it is very urban and looks prosperous. The economy is still developing and will take time because they are coming off trade sanctions in recent years (i think). Even though Japan is a much smaller country, there are very modernized and have a prosperous economy. They are still the power in Asia.
China has the ability to become great, but it's not there yet. It's getting economically stronger, but many of the little people are still poor.
Their young population is mostly male which is good for an army. And they probably have a nice, strong army, but I don't know anything about it.
And they are neither communist or capitalist, but socialist.
They also don't have much political power.
The U.S. has more of everything, so I would say they are the best at the moment. Until China boosts up it's economy and enriches the quality of life there.

Japan is indeed prosperous and modernized, but its says in Article 9 of the Japan Constitution that they cant maintain land or air forces.
My opinion for China:
I think people say China will be a super power not because of nukes but because of economics. The market in China is rapidly growing and is on pace to catch up to the US (not anywhere in the near future of course). I don't think number of nukes is much of an issue, unless theres is a war. And if there is a war, many countries would be a super-power because all have nukes and it doesn't take much to destroy a country =S.
Militarily:
Having 10000 nukes does not make you a super power, nukes were never supposed to be massively used, and they haven't been. (Thank god) They are supposed to be the DETTERENT force.
"bad guns"? "bad tanks"? "barely any crappy ships"?
Dude, where the hell have you been in the past 5 years? In a barn?
The T-99 MBT is supposed to rival the M1A2.
The C-800 Series of SSMs are equal if not superior to the Harpoon.
The new 052C DDGs are dubbed the "Chinese AEGIS", and are equiped with 6x6 VLS.
The Sovremenny DDGs carries Moskit SSMs which threatens even the US Carrier Battlegroups.
"barely any jets"?
China has over 120 Su-27SK / Su-30MKK multirole fighters equiped with the R-77/ AA-12 Adder AAM which is dubbed "AMRAAMski" by US AirForce because of it's close resemblence to the AIM-120.
Even though USA'S NAVY HAS 5000 AIRCRAFT AND USA AIRFORCE HAS 7000 AIR CRAFTS! But still.
Economically:
All Western companies, especially those in manufacturing, have all heard and have been affected by the "China Price". _________________ Life is full of truth, but I'd rather live in lies. I know if I live in lies, everything arent for real, but if you say you love me, is it something I could feel?

I'll get back to you in 94 years :]
edit: ok i feel guilty about my one liner so i'll just briefly add that China has some pretty significant problems to come in the form of AIDS, employment, inequality and political modernisation

well, they say they are powerful because fo their recent economic boom. if my memory serves me well, i think it had to do with the destroyed oil refineries in america. they had to buy from other country, like china, to provide for their citizens. of course, china raised the price. <<<<please correct me if i'm wrong.
and i think it also involves the population of the place. just becaus a place is swarming with people doesnt mean it's strong. unlike before, not many knows martial arts or even simple weapon handling.
China has the potential to become a world power in the near future because of their economics. But before anything happens they need to reform the goverment so that the people have a say in what happens although thats not going to happen anytime soon with the dispute against Tiwan over whether or not its part of their territory
Well it IS true that many poor people in China. Is that not true for all countries? Oh sure there are killings and disputes over land, but many countries have that. All countries have it actually. We have it here, but it's passed off as something peaceful. China is working towards building itself. Therefore, it will become a greater nation than the U.S. And all you guys saying that the U.S is the greatest country, get your head out of the propaganda and brainwashing school classes, and read a freakin' newspaper! We're in debt for at least 1 trillion dollars. Geez.
Actually their economic boom came before the american oil refineries were destroyed. They were buying out oil companies back in April. And China hasn't been withholding the use of their own oil unlike america who is trying to only use foriegn oil and stockpile the rest to have it in the future.
Their companies are run by the government, so the companies do what's best for the country unlike in america where companies do what's best for the CEO.
Yes, we are in debt, but we aren't really moving to pay anyone back for that. Because we are so powerful. We have the most money and political power, making the U.S. the most powerful. And it's been that way for a while now. China may surpass the U.S. in the next 5-ten years and take the title as world's best unless the U.S. changes something.
