|
|
since this question comes up *at least* once a week, I'm copying and stickying Kaiser's explanation from the Read.Me Txt Forum
*************************************************
How to get User Points
News submissions - 3 points for each accepted news post.
Anime Synopses - 8 points for each accepted synopsis to our anime reviews database.
Anime Reviews - 5 points for each accepted review to the database.
Anime Database Corrections - When you send a note to the staff giving or correcting information you receive 1 point for each correction accepted.
Anime Screenshots - 5 Points for a set of four original screenshots made by you. Please include your username in the email.
Torrent Submissions - 2 Points each torrent submitted.
Convention Reviews - 5 Points
Written Articles - on a case by case basis.
Everything you do to interact with the website will give you User Points. Some things might give you more points than others (ie Submitting News or Writing reviews gives you more points than Forum posts)
How do I find out how many points I have?
Look under Website Stuff on the website menu and click Account Settings
You should see your own personal menu like this:
[img:709:473:61b680704c]http://www.anime-source.com/banzai/images/admin/userpoints.jpg[/img:61b680704c]
That should tell you how many points you have.
You can also see The Top 50 A-Source members here.
What can I do with User Points?
At the moment, not much. It is just a way to keep track of how active you are with the website compared to other members. Having 10 points allows you to see some of the mangas we host, but we're trying to keep the manga access as open as possible without straining our bandwidth. Point requirements for manga access are might change without previous notice depending on bandwidth demand.
In the future we will allow members to trade in points for prizes and such. We've already given out 6 DVDs and a Sweater last year, who knows? Maybe your User Points will come in handy =)
* note, you do NOT get points for forum posts. We took that feature out when people abused our forums (spamming, double-posting) just for the points. It is probably safe to say that we will never revive that. _________________

We are NOT a game review site and that is not our focus. Although we do post game reviews sporadically, the standard for those reviews is MUCH higher than for our anime reviews in the database, so unless you're really going to do an all-out, very much in-depth review I recommend you stick to anime reviews only; otherwise your submission is 99% likely to get rejected. Anime reviews for our database are easier to write and, if you're after the points, they are probably the quickest way to go.
Besides, in written articles such as game reviews the last word is up to the writing staff, and their guidelines are more strict that they might seem. _________________

That's correct. Repeated submissions are not accepted, so if someone submits the torrent before you, then that person gets the points for the submission. You get points only for torrents that we don't have a link for already. _________________

I am rather surprised that people are more concerned about how much points they have rather than how good the quality of their submissions actually are. There are a lot of reviews in the database which are...well...not very constructive (I could have used a more brutal term, but I'll leave it as that). Yes, there are some good ones, but it's not very pleasant when you have to wade through so much of the less constructive ones before you see some pieces of writing which are actually decent. People should be more concerned about how good their submissions will be rather than how many points it will get them. I am not that concerned about how many points I have...I am more concerned about the quality of my submission. Hell, even when I read back through my submission and I spotted one grammatical mistake (I think I had them here and there in my recently submitted reviews), I immediately felt upset with myself for being so careless. And some of the users whose reviews I skimmed did not even use capital letters at the beginning of the sentences...oh lawd..
And I wholeheartedly agree that posts in the forum should not count as points. I don't think I have to say why. Well, I have not yet made a single post in that infamous longest spam...err...thread ever....and I don't intend to. _________________ [IMG:205:157:4263622574]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v608/charn/suzumiya-ep04-02.gif[/img:4263622574]

This might be just my pessimism talking, but I'm not surprised at all. In fact you'd ba appalled at how BAD some reviews are. And don't get me started on those who submit articles copied straight from wikipedia.
And here I once thought that certain IQ's were reserved to furniture. _________________

Well, that's why moderators are here, heh? But then the difficult bit is trying to find the fine line to make sure that the review database has a certain level of reliability....and to make sure that the policy of accepting reviews is not too harsh that it drives people with average writing skills who have a sincere intention to contribute away from this site.

Ugh, don't do that. Wikipedia is a site which no one should copy anything. In fact, at university level, if you write a thesis/essay whatever and you cite wikipedia.org in footnotes or bibliography.....you will be marked down. I just marked some first year law essays last week and there were a few who did that....their grades will go down one notch e.g. B+ down to B, or A- down to B+....sad for them (and also for me) actually _________________ [IMG:205:157:4263622574]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v608/charn/suzumiya-ep04-02.gif[/img:4263622574]

That's pretty obvious, actually. Newbies don't care what happens to the site, they just wanted points to read the manga. Even if the review database gets fills with rubbish they couldnt care less. I guess I was once like that. |

Small question... I've seen loads of missing STUDD images, but I haven't found any information about adding them.
Can those be submitted too, and do those count as screenshot submissions?
The STUDD previews look really silly if there's just or 5 times the same blank icon in them... especially since there aren't even names under the pics. _________________ “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

this article should help you out
http://www.anime-source.com/banzai/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1551&mode=&order=0&thold=0
EDIT - n/m, that article isn't about STUDD images... for character pictures, you gotta provide a 50x50 screencap and a 100x100 screencap. Just upload those images to an image-hosting site like photobucket or imageshack, then find the anime in our database and click "submit new STUDD data." Give us the URL to the images and the characters name. That should do the trick.

I believe they do

::shrugs:: all the more reason why users should be helping us out. We're getting pretty good at nailing the new series as they come out, but since the STUDD system is only like a year old, there's a lot of older shows that have big gaps. _________________

You can also e-mail or PM the images/links to a member of the Reviews team. Make sure to label your message appropriately, so it isn't deleted as spam. _________________

what exactly is meant by the following
"Anime Database Corrections - When you send a note to the staff giving or correcting information you receive 1 point for each correction accepted."
"Anime Screenshots - 5 Points for a set of four original screenshots made by you. Please include your username in the email."
I ask about the second because im not overly familiar with this site. i mostly go to the forums anime schedule or manga sections.
As for what du5k said. when i was a new member i made the forum posts just so i could read all the mangas but i made sure there was no spam and tried to choose mostly worthwhile topics, but am not sorry to see the feature gone because it was being abused.
Since i havent submitted anything yet (though intended to/tried to find something a while back) i will only submit it if its of good or sufficient quality.
that said i'd probably do it for points 50% of the time.
thats why i am asking now.... could someone direct me to some somewhat short reviews to get a look at for an example and also tell me what reviews i could do and hopefully help out with(or just explain the whole reviews thing....im not this clueless, just not familiar with it yet)
Thanks for any responses good or bad _________________ DO THESE LOOK LIKE THE EYES OF A JIGOLO O_O !?

The link to submit a not about an anime is beneath the screenshots. Can't miss it.

Just look at the anime database. You'll get it right away.

Once again, you can sample all of this by just going to the Database area (you get there ilke you woulf get to the forums). Click on the title of an anime and... voila! You'll see how things work, pretty much. If you still have questions, just ask. _________________
