Dear all,

Hi! i have a radeon 9200 graphics card with 128MB memory.

i am currently using a COMPAQ FP5315 Flat Panel Monitor.

I am planning to change to a 19inch LCD monitor with resolution 1440x900 pix (Either Samsung940NW or viewsonic VA1912WB)

i would just like to ask, if my graphics card is able to support the new resolution.

Another query of mine, would be to ask the difference between analog and DVI interface. Will my radeon 9200 support the DVI interface (which comes with the viewsonic screen) ?

finally, i would like to ask, with my specs and hardware, will i be able to have a dual screen usng my old compaq along with the new 19inch screen? Im afraid that as the max resolutions of both screens are different, my computer will not be able to support. Also, will i need any other hardware to be added to allow dual screen interface? (Im thinking how to connect both screens to my computer, as there only 1 screen port)

terribly sorry for the long post,

cheers,

jiashore

With the latest drivers, Radeon 9200 can support 1440x900 resolution.

Radeon 9200 supports dual-screen. But its two outputs are VGA and S-Video. S-Video is for T.V., so you're out of luck. You're lucky that those two monitors you listed supports analog inputs (VGA) and digital (DVI). I checked the ViewSonic one from Amazon and it says it comes with VGA cable. I dunno about the Samsung, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does come with one as well.

The difference between analog and digital (DVI or HDMI) is that analog uses frequencies to output image while the digital uses bits of 1's and 0's. Back then, digital was much more superior than analog because they were more precise in outputting images. But with modern research and technology, they've adjusted the analog to calculate pretty close to what the output should look like.

Thanks for the information!

So it is confirmed that my computer cannot have dual screen? Is there no possibility to have an analog port and a DVI port?

cheers,

jiashore

Your video card can do dual-screen but the second screen has to be a T.V. In order to have a VGA port and a DVI port, you have to either upgrade (replace) your video card to have such features or add in a PCI based video card. There's a lot of work required in adding in another video card, so I suggest that upgrading your video card is much more feasible.
