Ep 1 - First impressions:
Yahoooooo! Finally a character who realises the improbablity of being in a mech and wondering where his clothes has gone too!
I always get anoyed with charactes who do not or can't drive a car, suddenly find themselves piloting a mech superbly!
The mechs here show their weight and I mean you actually feel the heavy weights that theese mechs are. Clouds of dust rise up, giant foot prints in the earth, the metal (or whatever it is made of) strains and sighs as the mech moves slowly into position. This is the first time I've seen the weight of the mech portrayed as part of the mech. It also shows the damage it does to its environment. Good for it. Though for some reason, this all reminds me of the Japanese dubbed live action Ultraman of the 70's (I think it was the 70's ). I was having a laugh.
I don't normally watch a mech series casue as I said I get annoyed when a character automatically just knows how to do this and that but I am going to make an exception for this series. Episode one caught my attention with it's characters, 3-D animation of the mechs and for the mysterios girl character who fills the opening sequence but has yet to be seen for more then a second or two beyond the openning credits.
I'll be looking forward to the next episode and while I'm waiting for it, I will be trying to figure out who the main character is. The guy or the girl?

Oh, the guy, surely? It'd be odd if she was the main character, but he piloted the main mech...
Of course it could be a shared lead. We'll just have to wait and see.
I was also impressed with the feeling of weight the mechs had and their obvious momentum issues. They move like they really are that big, rather than like man sized (but still superhumanly agile) creatures magically made giant. It should be a general rule: the bigger you are, the slower you move. But then, that would just destroy vast swathes of the mech anime out there!

The OP doesn't seem to right, i mean this is supposed to be mecha anime right? It should have something like Gundam launch scenes instead of romance style OP.
I agree the 3D mecha fighting scenes are well done, you could actually feel the weight of the machines when they move. However, it seems kinda slow to me as i'm used to fast paced actions. And does anyone else not think the "fade in" part is kinda cheesy? It feels more like watching Ultraman than a mecha anime.
Looking forward to the next episode, especially the girl's identity.
In Junki's dream, there were 2 machines so i guess she's the black Reideen's pilot.

Good theory.
Looks like we will get to see the girl in episode 3. I hope she gets a reasonable amount of screen time and not just a few seconds.
In ep 2:
When Junki is in Reideen he does not have his clothes and specs and when he returns back out his clothes are still missing but his specs are are with him??? Does the giant robot like his taste in clothes but not his specs?
The animation for Reideen in this episode is really cool.
I have bones to pick with this episode. Utterly annoyed that Junki knows how to do this and that automatically.
In disbelief that no one seems to be worried about the appearance of 2 totally alien giant mechs or majorly freaked out by the appearance of potential zombies. Isn't it about time people start fleeing for their lives instead of standing around cheering?
While I do agree that the OP so far feels mispalced, I think it would be just as misplace in any series once you considered that as of ep 2, we still have not been introduced to the girl who basically takes up most of the OP.
Having said that I really like the OP. I find that it is done in a style that is unique.
Since this a remake of a 70's series, it could be possible that the "fade in" part is inherited from the original. Lol, I think fade in would be better suited to the magical genre.

lol, no I think it's the other way round,
Reideen doesn't like his taste in clothes, which is why he keeps hiding them.
It's a bit irritating that the creators of this are obviously trying to not make your average mech anime, but are still falling into the classic mecha pitfalls. Yes, I think "Fade In" is a stupid call as well. It may be a remake, but that doesn't mean they couldn't have got rid of it... That's if it is a relic from the original, can't say I've seen it.
The 'zombies', on the other hand, I thought were a refreshing addition to this kind of anime... as was the employed method of dealing with them: Just kick their asses. Why does no one ever think of that? It's not as though they're going to be trained in martial arts, is it?

Lol, so unexpected, Reideen is a
fashion critic. I guess you can't please all giants mechs
I agree the zombie concept is a refreshing idea. When was the last time we saw a mech that would infect humans and turn them into mindless humonoids? Lol, it would be never for me.
Something occured to me just now. As Lucifer pointed out about Junki's dream and theory. The other mech is black. Might be the girl's. The name of the mountain on which we first see her is Kurokami Mt which translates to Black God Mt. So here is a taught, either she or her black mech are what gave the Mt it's name. Which brings me to the question of why was Reideen which is golden in Kurokami Mt? It seems to be able to teleport to space, so why was it stuck in that mountain as I don't think thats its home.
I agree that its interesting to show the true weight and reality of mechas but... doesnt it ruin the fun? it was still rather interesting to see how he figured out to use his crossbow that easily..he was like oh just like that dream..which i thought was pretty dot..! but before that he did panic and such...its already episode two and how the story would go is still in the grey zone...mecha, love or should i say what type of conflict.. would it be the greeen gu or other huge mecha =.=?
or am i just missing something?!

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't a succession of Mecha for Reideen to fight that form the main crux of the anime.
The green goo/zombie stuff will no doubt be around more to provide a threat to the minor characters (and to Junki when he's out of his mech) than to provide the main thrust of the story.
Could be wrong, of course, but then what's a mech there for, if not to do battle with other mechs (or giant space monsters )

Whoa, a shiny golden giant robot... it sounds awfully familiar.

among the new mech shows, this remake... dunno.. the pace is kinda sluggish.. i dunno abut the original, but i would prolly enjoy the original more(during its time).. this seems geared towards more drama than action.. but i could be wrong. main lead kinda boring for me.. whatever happened to the snot nosed kid or noisy teenager that usually gets to drive these robots.. dont want another wangster for a lead char.. its just boring that way (it may look cool but boring nonetheless).
i think theyre trying too hard to come up with this new feel to the super robo genre.. its lacking the excitement factor. well.. just my opinion on the first 3 episodes. lets see how it goes on in a few more. . _________________ [img:400:237:866f672f5a]http://www.geocities.com/bktabz/mari_boya.jpg[/img:866f672f5a]

I know what you mean. They're really trying hard to be different, but they're still using all the old mecha conventions (like 'fade in'). They've slowed down all the fight scenes and given the mechs realistic weight and speed of movement, but they've still got reideen performing all the moves you'd get in a normal mecha series, the end result being action you've seen a million times before, but this time it's veeeeery slooooow.

the way the mech moves reminds me of 'geneshaft' u can feel the weight of the large thing due to its movement.. but the mech in geneshaft has all these boosters stuck to it to make it move really fast(in space)
the zombie action kinda offsets it.. i mean why was tehre any zombie action. liquid goo flowing out from the robot to posses humans only to go back into the robot to destroy again? if it wanted to wreak havoc it shldve stayed a robot and... i dont really get this, the need for such a thing.. have to wonder if it will happen again.. reideen fights a space monster, puts it to sleep, liquid goo falls out.. posses humans.. tries to scare the hell out of the pilot then goes back into the robot to get destoryed permanently.

Hmm, think that's more
Reideen does battle with giant robot, thinks he's destroyed it but actually only cripples it. After which, giant robot goes after Reideen with the only means at it's disposal ('zombie' possession), while it's repairing itself. Fails. Finishes repairs. Tries to kill Reideen again. Dies.
So far what is keeping me watching this is the beautifully animated appearance and disappearnace of Reideen. It's fade in is done really well. Lol, much better then the fade in of it's driver... though he is starting to develop a pose when he says fade in
The other X factor would be Akira. Still all questions marks on that. Mystery and mysterious.

Its not that nice that:
every time you fade in Reideen, you loose your clothes... You need to bring extra set of clothing always XP
And That reideen response is way too slow, I mean compared to those of Mechs like Gundam or some other Mechs, they move quite fast
This Anime would be more interesting as time passes by, I suppose.
Oh Yeah, Akira seems too perfect for now that is
