new question found at my eleventh post. Below is my first challenge. My 12th post is my 12th challenge
Himitsu was on her way to an anime convention but somehow got lost in the desert. Her car broke down so she was forced to leave her car. She’s been wandering for days in the desert and was dying from lack of anime. During her travel, she found two manga nomads, Lucifer and Leoxjm bickering over who had the cutest anime avatar. She asked if they had any anime they could spare and they replied “no� but they did have manga, 8 volumes of Rurouni Kenshin, Lucifer had 5, Leoxjm had 3. They wouldn’t share with her for free so she revealed that she had 8 Haruhi Suzumiya dvds. Ecstatic, Lucifer and Leoxjm evenly distributed their combined 8 volumes of Rurouni Kenshin among the 3 of them and began to read (they tore the manga apart). After everyone read his or her share, Himitsu thanked them, left her 8 Haruhi Suzumiya dvds on the sand, and took her manga with her and left. However, the A-S mother ship realized her absence over such a long period and teleported her back. All that was left was Lucifer and Leoxjm and their 8 new Haruhi Suzumiya dvds. They began to argue about who gets what and punches were exchanged. Can you help them decide how they should mathematically share Haruhi?

Actual answer to the puzzle:
I got screwed over and ended up with 1 dvd, Luc ended up with 7. Here's why: We have 8 manga volumes, but we are 3 people and can't distribute them right. Therefore, we cut them up (as you said) into 3 pieces each and each reads 8 pieces. Now, my mangas were cut up into 9 pieces and luc's into 15. since each got 8, Himitsu got 7 pieces from lucifer and only 1 from me. if we equate 1 piece=1 dvd, i get 1 and Luc gets 7.
Now... Why would Luc want 3 repeated DVD's of haruhi? Don't be stingy Luc! They'd be extras to you anyway!

This sounds downright confusing... this can't exactly be "mathematically" solved, it's a logic question, not a maths question... it's aint maths until you state the requirements corectly...
But with what you have here... this is my answer...
Whoever has the cutest avatar is not the point here desho?
1. Each of them needs to receive 8/3 books of manga
2. Leo has 9/3 books, Luc has 15/3 books
3. To share equally, Leo gives 1/3 to become 8/3, Luc gives 7/3 to become 8/3, Himitsu receive 1/3+7/3=8/3
4. So the ratio of Leo to Luc is 1:7
5. Therefore Luc will receive 7 DVDs, Leo will receive only 1

Here's my answer:
Since they shared the manga evenly among the 3 of them, that means that evberyone now has 8/3 volumes because they all combined. Since himitsu left with her portion of the manga and left her 8 volumes, that means that they should share that amount evenly among the remaining populist. that means it's 8/2...they each get 4 because they're sharing everything evenly
Fission2>> I'd have to disagree. Lucifer and Leoxjm are both greedy and have problems sharing. For them to both split the 8 winnings equally when Lucifer started with 5 manga and Leoxjm had 3 would not work out since Lucifer gave up more than Leoxjm did. You're assuming they'd share what they had left, 8/3 each when they'd throw punches to settle the dispute over Haruhi (which wasn't that great by they way). They are not sharers. My answer is the same as leoxjm and du5k.

The answer is:
Since the manga was divided equally among the 3, meaning 8/3 each. That means Leoxjm who had 3 to start with gave up only 1/3 to himitsu, while Lucifer gave 7/3 manga. Lucifer gave up 7 times more than leoxjm so he was entitled to 7 Haruhi dvds and leoxjm only 1.
Onto the next challenge.
Nobody_here was busily doing A-S work on the A-S bridge when suddenly teleported away! Oh noes! Evil archvillain Fission2 teleported him into his layer. Was it a skull in a swamp? No it was girl's head in an outdoor bath. Nobody_here resisted with his sand powers but to no avail and was chained by evil robots to a chair and table with a typewriter on it. "Mwahaha" Fission2 chuckled while stroking his white cat. "The typewriter in front of you is a nuclear bomb. Only by typing the password can you hope to diffuse the bomb in time. One wrong key and it's wired to explode and destroy the entire world with it- killing everybody!" Fission2 raved. "Wouldn't it also kill you then?" nobody_here asked. "SILENCE!" Fission2 yelled. Only by finding the password can you only hope to save the world. It's the longest word in the english dictionary and that consists of only the top letters of the keyboard {QWERTYUIOP}. You can use letters more than once and you do not have to use all the letters. Well I'd love to stay and watch your demise but I must leave for no apparent reason." With that, Fission2 and his floaty sci-fi chair removed him from the chambers leaving only nobody_here to crack the code to save the world. Help him save the world!

Since its in the middle of a desert, I'd say whoever is stronger will get all the comics+DVD's, and the other one will eventually be buried in a sand dune. If they're going as far as exchanging punches, there's no real reason as to why it will not be further escalated.
