Teaching/Living in Japan

shibuya is so~ crowded.

i'm considering applying to uni for a english degree <___<
with some sort of minor i think. anywhoo.

as much as i want to teach in japan (my mom doesn't really care)
i honestly can say, i dont want to live there long term as in like...
for the rest of my life? ....its just not a good place to live in my
opinion, but i do love visiting.

Yeah, Japan's expensive and quite hectic (as I've been told), but I think I can manage. I'll just have to be thrifty and alert.

no nothing really scary its just... not as appealing in my opinion.

like nekko said yeah its hectic and expensive but thats not
the point, i mean i have/had money for food since really food
isn't very expensive in japan unless you're going for like sushi
so it's not that and clothes sure they're expensive but yeah you
don't really have to shop in the high end areas like i did either.
i'm also use to the hectic-ness of asian countries since i usually
go to hong kong/china every year or 2 years.

i've travelled a lot so its not a matter of "adapting" its just that:
- the climate/weather isn't very great, a lot of people on our
trip got rashes and such from the weather and it looks like its
a common problem.
- the pollution isn't that bad actually but it can make you feel
uncomfortable so they all wear masks and such.

i think if i lived there too long i'd get really bored/overwhelmed
its just an uncomfortable feeling there at least for me...

I mean most of them are pretty fast moving and hectic in the cities and some of them have the worst air pollution problems sometimes. Confused

my sensei in nihongo, well, sometime in process of his teaching shares his life in japan.

he said when boarding a room/dwelling place, it's better to have someone to share with cause rents are so expensive.

and yeah, he said that things in japan are expensive.

also, he said that rush hour in japan is like hell.

from my understanding teaching for nova is like a black mark on your record.

getting a work permit in japan requires a bachelors degree, so regardless of what program you go for you need a bachelor's(with some exceptions if your a resident of Canada, New Zealand or a few other countries and meet certain criteria, http://www.anyworkanywhere.com/visas_jp.html ). One bad thing about JET is if you have experience in Japanese language, you can get really screwed, put in the middle of no-where. I have a friend teaching through JET right now, he had finished through 4th year Japanese at UCSD, and he got put in a little mountain village of about 3000 people teaching elementary school. II had another friend who was there for a year, through JET, in Okaiyama, after he graduated from college, he said his job was essentially being a clown, he wasn't a real teacher, he was basicly their to entertain. their are a lot of resources for peopler looking to teach English in Japan, another thing you can do is private tutoring.or look for a more private school, and see if they are hiring, here are some sites that may be of use to you.
