Well if xeno's not updating, I will~
sorry, I was away for the weekend. I left a message to the staff and another in the LTE.
only updates I have from my own pursuit is I found another person who is planning on doing the program, so now I'm amoung a group of 4... not counting anyone from A-Source. I hope some people will decide to go for it, it's a great chance to get to meet people from all around the world.

I just came from the Jap classes today. The class has now officially split up into two: one with the girl sensei, the other (us) with the fat guy sensei.
ouch, you got fat sensei

Well I think everything's not that bad, but every now and then we would hear laughter from the other class. And somehow, it looks as if the cream of the crop is the other class (the fluent Jap speakers and writers are in the other class)... Oh well~
oh god... there is nothing worse than being in a totally boring class and then hearing the class next door having a wild time without you. I'd seriously start crying.

Here's a pic of my classroom, it really looks Japanese IMO:

yeah, I was gonna say... that looks pretty much like a japanese classroom. Well, I suppose not too many variations can be expected. That photo looks like it was taken at night-time.

It's my first time to have a desk with that little storage under it... hee hee. Lookie, at the sides of the desks, there are hooks to put up your bags too~
sounds like the desks we had in elementary school here in the US. We didn't have side-hooks though, we had cubbies in the corner of the room since our bags were frickin' behemoth.

Two words, Hello Kitty.
oh, heehee... I can deal with cuteness OVERLOAD!! In fact, it's part of the appeal of my wanting to go. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)
spanky> Each to his/her own preferences~ Yeah, Japan's expensive and quite hectic (as I've been told), but I think I can manage. I'll just have to be thrifty and alert.
......... and I promise to hide my passport inside my underwear.
xeno> Nah, it's not that all bad. He IS a really good sensei, a lot of people there said so. The girl sensei is new, that's why when we asked some questions at her, she had to use an electronic dictionary or ask someone from outside.
But now the other class got transferred again because they said our sensei is too loud. They got transferred to a carpeted room~
And we can still hear them laugh. _________________ EX-mod
no nothing really scary its just... not as appealing in my opinion.
like nekko said yeah its hectic and expensive but thats not
the point, i mean i have/had money for food since really food
isn't very expensive in japan unless you're going for like sushi
so it's not that and clothes sure they're expensive but yeah you
don't really have to shop in the high end areas like i did either.
i'm also use to the hectic-ness of asian countries since i usually
go to hong kong/china every year or 2 years.
i've travelled a lot so its not a matter of "adapting" its just that:
- the climate/weather isn't very great, a lot of people on our
trip got rashes and such from the weather and it looks like its
a common problem.
- the pollution isn't that bad actually but it can make you feel
uncomfortable so they all wear masks and such.
i think if i lived there too long i'd get really bored/overwhelmed
its just an uncomfortable feeling there at least for me... _________________ "The basis of optimism is sheer terror."

Jas>>> I think thats true for most asian countries.
I mean most of them are pretty fast moving and hectic in the cities and some of them have the worst air pollution problems sometimes.
Nekko>> whoa u had time to come on?? lol XD well I guess u will eventually find out soon enough when u visit and have time. _________________ (\__/)

I heard as long as you stay out of Tokyo, living is quite affordable. Right now I live in one of the most expensive parts of the USA, so if anything, it will be the same or hopefully slightly less. I doubt I'd spend a lot on food either. Even now I eat like one meal a day with one or two snacks.

I'm from New England kinda near the water. One day it will be cold, the next day it will be sweltering... sometimes both within the same day. I should be prepared for whatever Japan throws at me.

honto ni!? I thought the masks were for people who were sick... since they're all germophobes over there.

I plan on just doing a year to try it out. I suppose my decision to stay longer will depend on the connections I make while there. I might have periods of boredom, but that happens here anyway. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)

mine is actualy reading a good educational book[im creeping my self out brrrrr] so there find your own ways to kill boredome heheh
you're scary me too... educational stuff? blah... haha... well, not like I can talk, I just bought a japanese culture reference book with a small translator and grammar-rules section to start studying for my trip.
Although, knowing me, I'll just cast it aside and forget totally about it... just like I did with my book of tips on how to improve your memory... (I kid you not) _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)
from my understanding teaching for nova is like a black mark on your record.
getting a work permit in japan requires a bachelors degree, so regardless of what program you go for you need a bachelor's(with some exceptions if your a resident of Canada, New Zealand or a few other countries and meet certain criteria, http://www.anyworkanywhere.com/visas_jp.html ). One bad thing about JET is if you have experience in Japanese language, you can get really screwed, put in the middle of no-where. I have a friend teaching through JET right now, he had finished through 4th year Japanese at UCSD, and he got put in a little mountain village of about 3000 people teaching elementary school. II had another friend who was there for a year, through JET, in Okaiyama, after he graduated from college, he said his job was essentially being a clown, he wasn't a real teacher, he was basicly their to entertain. their are a lot of resources for peopler looking to teach English in Japan, another thing you can do is private tutoring.or look for a more private school, and see if they are hiring, here are some sites that may be of use to you.
