Silver>> that sucks, ur area has heard of it so they flew off the shelves? |
You know, I don't think my town is so hip to know about games like this (without much hope I even checked the local Blockbusters, of course they didn't have it and said they weren't ever gonna stock them up).
It's just that stores tend to not stock enough Atlus games. When I said "the only store that had the game", I meant one that started selling. The other EBgames I went to said they didn't receive them yet. I'm gonna call them up today to see if they finally have some. Damn Canada, why do they have to delay release date for stupid things like stuffing an extra French manual.... Nobody even speaks French where I live (well like 95% ppl probably don't speak French).
EDIT:
I finally got it today! I picked it up on the way to work, when I got back from work it was too late night to play much. I played through few stages of Gwendolyn's. First thing to hit me was how gorgeous this game looks. Just beautiful. One of the best looking PS2 games I ever played. Also, <3 Gwendolyn's voice! Kawasumi Ayako ftw!
I can't wait to play Mercedes' story. Her VA Noto Mamiko's voice is so familiar in anime to me by now, I'm curious how it'd feel to hear her in a game. Seriously, Noto Mamiko is in like EVERY anime... _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

*whew*
The fighting is so damn hardcore! I've already counted 50+ deaths so far. If this is what normal is, I'd really rather not try difficult mode. I just finished the Forest of the Fairies, and it was not easy at all. I had like a bag full of health tonics, now I have half of whats left.
So anyways, GameTrailers.com has released their review of the game. Check it out:

I played it yesterday, and I love it. <3 I love the art style, I love the story thus far, I love the characters thus far. The item system is pretty nifty and open as well.
My favorite part is the combat though. It requires a bit of strategy in order to avoid many deaths. (Although I died a good number of times already) But I don't think its unreasonably difficult yet. It reminds of a beat em up that looks like an anime and that is much harder. I only wish there were more normal attacks at your disposal or available later. I'm not sure if its every going to be available, but I would sort of like to see more than 4 attacks and a jumping attack and magic. The magic/Syphon system is kinda iffy.....but I suppose its balanced in a way, given that your magic is so powerful.
The only thing Im not too found of is the leveling system. I sort of prefer normal experience/stat growths over their system, but its still a decent and somewhat entertaining diversion to the normalcy of your every-RPG.
Overall its a good game that has great potential and I hope to get it soon... _________________ Miku Miku!!

Yes, I love this game so far. Still only at early stages of Gwendolyn's story, but it's pretty fun. I'm also playing at normal difficulty and I find some of the bosses need several tries to beat. I couldn't beat general Brigan so I back tracked a little and went back to the forest to grind. I'm beating the forest stages over and over getting some B~S ranks and building up my level and money. Also, I like that fact that you never really accumulate huge number of items that never gets used. In this game, every item has a use and gets used pretty quickly. For example, I gather all the useless seeds and onniones and transform them to some high exp food with Juggler: Great way to level my HP and make some room in inventory.
I'm gonna level my weapon some more before going back to face Brigan again. Because more than the matter of skill, my weapon was doing so little damage to him that by the time I did like 50 glide attacks, he was only down to half health.
I hope that after this game's success, Atlus decides to bring Princess Crown PSP to stateside. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

You'd better train more then. Bosses only get more tougher from there on.
Odette was a thorn in the ass when I played Gwendolyn. Right now I'm training Cornelius before going on to Winterhorn Ridge. _________________

Vboi>> hahah Yea ur right I beat the dragon and BOY are some of the bosses really hard and thats not even the hardest in the game T,T
Velvet was so annoying, she used the whole battlefield as a weapon and she kept moving around =___=
but I figured out how to defeat her!
Right now IM heading off to verse General Brigan -___-
O boy I have to train for him.....
The smaller bosses in that area are hard enough for me... _________________ (\__/)

I find that training is pretty easy. At first I thought this game was too hard, but after I figured out how to level up fast, it's not so bad. Most boss fights were pretty easy after some training. I'm playing Cornelius fighting Velvet's imposter; I may need some more training for this one.
I love the whole phozon/alchemy system in this game. Combining different stuff and figuring out the fastest ways to get lot of high level materials was pretty fun.
The story so far isn't too bad, but I love the characters. Gwendolyn is so awesome >;3 I love her. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

Worst enemy ever so far.
Green f*cking blobs. You can't hit 'em.
I've killed them once with a killer cloud, but I'm obviously extremely limited to them... _________________

Haha I guess nobody else is hardcore enough to play this game?
I think most people will never even see this title in stores... it's limited quantity release. Even though it's such a great game, it's still a niche title. Most stores will have only handful of shipments and then it's over. Buy it quickly when you have the chance. Other big stores (Futureshop here in canada) never even sell it.
I suggest you to leave the horn mountain stage and go back to Elrit forest and train. It's a good place for leveling your HP and get some money for new bags. Also, save your carroteers if you find them in the forest. I think it was Carroteer + x0 material = 3Healing potion... correct me if i'm wrong. Also try to make some more napalms from all the onniones you find there, that's always useful in heavy crowd situations. Onnione + x2 material = 1Napalm
Also some other useful alchemy facts I've discovered:
0material + any fruit (including meat and leftover foods) = 5material
x material + any potion = multiplied number of material (20 mat -> 40mat) _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

Did anyone notice that king Odin isn't called Odin in Japanese version, instead he's called Ordyne?
Also, he's voiced by the same VA that played Ikari Gendo (Evangelion). _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

I don't think the name is just Japanese way of pronouncing. They actually didn't name him Odin, it was officially Ordyne. This game's story is very loosely based on Norse mythology and I think they intentionally named him as Ordyne.
Here's a page from the artbook that only came with Japanese release of Odin Sphere.
[IMG:104:150:6ac9b26f42]http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/8775/ordynedu2.th.jpg[/img:6ac9b26f42]
I don't know why Atlus decided to name him Odin in English version.
Also, it was a good choice to use Gendo Ikari's VA for Odin. Those two characters are alike. Both terrible dads, and both has ego problems.
Yeah that was the final chapter of Gwendolyin's story. But if you scroll down the story page, there are quite a bit more unfinished chapters for all 5 characters. I'm guessing those are unlocked after playing through all 5.
I think I beat the game with Gwendolyn at around level 38/39 (not exactly sure). _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

Oh so I am nearing the end, at least for Gwendolyn.
Well Isn't Odin the English word for the lead God of Norse mythology?
and yea I agree Gendo's VA does suit the character of odin (ordyne) ^^
OH man I can't wait!! In my other forum they posted up fan art for Odin sphere and I can't wait to make sigs out of them!!! >,<;;
Just be on the look out for that cuz Im definitely making a sigs for this. And if anyone would want the pics then just ask... _________________ (\__/)
