How popular is manga where you live and is it widely available? Over here in the UK it seems to be quite uncommon. I've only seen manga being sold in a few large bookstores, and even then the section is relatively small.
There are also very few readers that I know of. Sad It may just be my area though, perhaps a fellow Brit on here could clarify for me. Smile

What about you guys?

Here in Canada, we're no better off than UK. Only in specialty shops like comic book stores or large book retailers sell them. Although, I may be wrong since I never visited Vancouver, but I think that city might have more anime/manga stuff available since there is a large asian population in the city.

Hello from America.
I'm from Florida and all the libraries around my community have mangas (graphic novels) and places like Borders have entire rows devoted to that stuff. Basically, libraries to big name bookstores have mangas. As for popularity, I can't say much since no one ever reads them at school as they do in Japan.
There are a lot of fans though since the introduction of anime to Cartoon Network's lineup. People do know what anime is and the craziness in watching it. A couple of my friends enjoy reading manga since I introduced it to them. It's still on a low-down deal in America though.

well I'm in Florida at the moment, and it's relatively popular, but back when I was in California it was way more popular.
I'd seen stores dedicated to allowing people to rent mangas and just sit and read in the store. They even had ramen noodles for sale and hotpots that you could use to cook some instant noodles while you read your manga.
Of course, this was mostly in certain areas. I'd seen a couple of those stores in Korea Town, and one store in the Japanese area in California.
But yeah, it's definitely pretty darn popular in California.

Probably because of so much Asian population in those areas. Those type of manga cafe are pretty common in Korea and Japan, so it makes sense that they'd bring those to Korea towns or Japanese area. BTW, I bet most of the manga in those stores were not in English.

In the land of koalas and 'roos (Australia), it seems we're on par with Canada and UK. There are stores dedicated to manga and anime, but not many, and it still takes ages to order in a series. You'll definitely be able to find mangas in all the bookstores as well, with students scabbing free manga reads XD. Borders even resorted to covering the mangas in plastic wrapping, but punk studnets just remove them LOL.

In uni theres a really large club dedciated to anime/manga, and the anime convention held annually draws a really large crowd.

Here in Cali, manga is pretty abundant, but so are alot of other things XD I think the combination of a huge population and a sizable asian one add to the popularity

Most bookstores carry the most popular series. And alot of the magazines I get have been having more tokyopop ads. So while mainstream it is not, popular it is...:3
