lol no love for the "new account first post freakout" posts. =)
The three different stories of the movie are being released seperately. The first aired a month or two back, and some lesser qulity subs found their way into circulation. The other two haven't been released yet. If you're wanting to wait for the HD DVD quality that something like Makoto Shinkai's work should be viewed in, you're probably going to have to wait until around the end of the year I'd imagine. |

I just finised this movie and loved it! Though at the end I'm a bit confused.
Did the girl, Akari get engaged with Tohno? Or was it an engament with some other guy? And also was the reason why Tohno was depressed and quit his job due to that he was lonely and missed Akari?

It's really a pity that they lost contact, since they were really close. Apparently, Akari stopped replying the letters first. In the end, Akari got married to another guy. But I can't believe Akari didn't bother to wait, or that Takaki didn't even chase after Akari at the railway. Even if it does mean that they already moved on.

[fanboy] OMFG THIS MOVIE ROCKSSS!!!!! [/fanboy]
Okok.. lots of you don't get it i see. I believe the director didn't gave any solid conclusion so it's up to us to decide for ourself. The title itself contains a little subliminal message to say the least:
The movie is named 5 Centimeters Per Second for the speed at which cherry blossom petals fall, petals being a metaphorical representation of humans, reminiscent of the slowness of life and how people often start together but slowly drift into their separate ways.
At the end, Akari was engaged to another guy. Tohno resigned from his job probably because that wasn't what he was chasing. *hint hint* I really really hope they could be together though.. =(

Visual, I must say, I completely agree with you.
I think most of the people that watched the first portion of the movie and later watched the rest are being mislead.
The first episode basically just established a setting, so most of us just assume that its going to be a love story. But story and plot usually come second to purpose when talking about makoto shinkai. I mean, he is better known for developing complex emotions and themes of isolation than for being a master storyteller. If anything, the ideas that he is trying present would be much more easily expressed through literature and are not easy to integrate into works of animation. The fact that most people are confusing this peice for a love story goes to show that shinkai still has quite a bit to work on in conveying his ideas. |

I've been PM-ing people all over the place trying to find someone to heavily discuss this anime with.
My review was rejected 3 times because it was too thorough, that's how into this short series I am.
Anyway, if anyone wants to have a spoiler-full talk about 5cm per second PM me. |

| I finished it a while ago, and I do love the movie, one of my favourites, I actually like the ending, it fits in with what the anime is about. They start close but slowly drift away, I'm totally gonna buy this when it comes out December. |
