I first watched anime when I was 2 years old. That anime was Tokimeki Tonight. It was on TV and my sister liked it so much. She dragged me along to watch with her.

I never realized what Anime was until about 10 years ago. I didn't really distinguish it from other cartoons. Later on did i realize that Astroboy, G-force, candy candy, princess sarah and so many other cartoons i used to watch was actually anime. I started really getting into all the anime craze when i was about 7th grade. It started with Sailormoon and Ranma 1/2 and i used to collect so many cards and other things. I still got em now and it's funny to see them. Razz Well, now that i've been into anime so long it's really been a good thing. I LOOOOVE anime!!! So people out there just KEEP ON WATCHING!

I got into liking anime when I got exposed to Saint Seiya in Chinese dub. I didn't understand it but I like the anime that I got to undrstand some of it. Before that most anime are just Japanese cartoons to me.

My first fave would have to be Macross or basically Robotech Saga because it made all kids imagination come true in some ways. It was even mentioned in a skit in Late Night with Conan O'brien.

And now I am trying to get my hands on Macross Zero, those cg made it all worth the money. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Yea, Robotech!
My first were the giant robot ones, like Mazinger Z, Getta Robo, Grandizer, I still remember the way Grandizer shouts at every weapon he uses, "LIGHTNING THUNDER!!!! RAINBOW BEAM!!!!" Haha. Later I got back into anime after watching akira, Ninja Scroll, DBZ and Guyver, at that time, it was my first exposure to animation which had quite a high level of sex and violence, I was like this is cartoon, coool!!! That rape scene in Ninja Scroll man, it's engraved in my mind!! I was 14 when I saw that...

hmm..I started addicted to anime after one of my friends used my computer and downloaded an episode of Naruto..I watched it and eventually started to download episode by episode..Actually it just recently(early this year) that I got ADDICTED to anime but it feels like ages ago since I watched the first anime because I really spent every second of my leisure time watching all those anime that I missed which is like lots of (25++) anime.. Rolling Eyes I think Naruto is the best anime at the moment.. cheers..

My first experience is really similar to Kaiser's one. I had watched a few "special" Teletoon, a canadian cartoon network. It featured : Macross Plus, Ninja Scroll, Wings of Honeamise and Patlabor I & II.

I watched Astroboy when I was little and Dragonball (no Z) when it first came out, but I didn't think of those as anime. I guess I'm more in line with Frundock and Kaiser. It was Canadian channels like Teletoon, Space and Bravo that really got me into anime. While the shows they carry now are more mainstrain (Yugi-Oh, MegaMan, etc) they had some great late night anime in the beginning. Macross Plus, Ninja Scroll and Wings of Honeamise were also the shows that caught my attention. They also aired some classics like Harmageddon, Night on the Galactic Railroad, Wind Named Amnesia, Gal Force... the list goes on. (BTW, Teletoon has been re-airing all of Cybersix again. It still has a very distinctive look.)

I was also very fortunate to live near a Jumbo Video with the biggest anime selection in the city. Not one puny little rack like so many stores had, but two complete isles of anime with rental for a week! That got me into El Hazard, Gun Smith Cats, Tenchi, Saber Marionette J, Gunbuster, Captain Tylor, Utena, Escaflowne... well, you get the idea (the list would be pretty long). It was anime heaven for a while.

I was very sad to see that store close, but found some good fan sub distributors in Ontario and Alberta. A local comic shop also turned out to have a good anime selection and their prices were better then any of the big chains and they would custom order. Eventually VHS subs died out and I turned to usenet for fan subs. It wasn't very reliable, though, as often critical pieces would be missing, so BT was a welcome addition. With so many quality DVDs and fan subs out now I don't watch a lot of regular TV any more. There is such variety in anime that I don't have much interest in live action shows available. Haven't been able to convert my wife, but my kids won't be a problem once they learn to keep up with the subtitles. My daughter is probably the only girl in her school to have seen Card Captor Sakura as it was meant to be.

how???
maybe because i play a lot of games then I saw one, megaman on TV i got curious and *boom* it became coco crunch!
BTW, games and anime are somewhat a good combination, but i prefer anime's before games.

I had been exposed to anime before, but the first anime I actually began looking up on the internet and such was Digimon. Everything else cascaded from there.

The way I got into anime was that I was watching Cartoon Network and saw a cartoon that was far better than anyone that I had seen before. I looked up the name over the net and found that it was an anime. after that I searched any and all information that I can get my hands up on anime. But I'm still new to the anime scene.

For myself, the first anime I ever saw was Samurai Pizza Cats. Everyday at lunch I would go home and watch it on YTV.
Then I got into DBZ, and went and rented Akira. Akira was what got me hooked. I was something like 12 or 13 at the time of watching the movie... the rental place thought it was just some cartoon so let me get it. haha.

Anyways, I ended up getting referenced to something called "hotline" which was a weird little file transfer program. I started hosting my Ranma for everyone to watch, and downloading more to put on my server.
Everything went downhill from there, where kunekaden and kaiser joined my server, and then I merged with a whole bunch of other great people.
Now, I am a bitch of Anime-Source, because kaiser somehow took over and dominated us all!

An interesting little tidbit I found... the group that made hotline are now a large hosting company!

Samurai Pizza Cats was da' bomb! I remember watching those too, on YTV, although I don't really call that my getting into anime because I had no idea at the time that it was even from a different country.
