I've just watched the first episode of this. Saying Dennou Coil looks to be an interesting series would be quite an understatement. There are some real anime legends that have worked on this, so I have high hopes that this will be a classic; the first episode certainly doesn't disappoint.
If I had to describe it, I'd say it's a mixture of Spirited Away and Serial Experiments Lain. If that sounds unlikely or difficult to imagine, just watch the first ep. and you'll see what I mean.
Can't wait for more of this. |

Saw the first episode and this is what I get from watching it: o_O. And your pretty right about this anime having the characteristics of the Spirited Away movie and Serial Experiments Lain.
So are these kyuu-chans an evil thing or a good thing? Why do they exist? Why to these "illegals" exist?
I'm still trying to grasp the virtual stuff that are going on in this anime. You have computer screens popping out of nowhere and calling people with your fisted hand as a cell phone. I'm beginning to wonder if this anime is some kind of a computer game existing in the real world. This show is so weird, but it's pretty interesting at the time.
And oh yeah. Fumie's servant is so cute. ^w^

Yeah, I'm still grappling with the virtual nature of their world. After the first episode, I thought that the virtual world simply overlaid the real world, with the virtual glasses needed to see it. After the second episode, though, I'm not so sure about that any more.
When those 'Mojo' thingies started firing at Kyoko and her arm started glitching, I started thinking: "that can't just be right. Even with the glasses on, her real arm should show through looking fine...". There may be an explanation for that, though.
The kyuu-chans are explained in the second episode. They belong to Searchmaton (or Saatchi) and are automated system repair tools. They're probably only 'evil' in relation to the girls in Coil.

very cool concept on this one, its like the virtual world is overlayed on the real world, it keeps up with the changes of the real world and updates when necessary so that the pets can interact with the real objects to make it seem like they are affected by the real world.
in order for the pets to interact with humans, i think the people have an overlay of themselves in the network as well.. not that it would affect them directly physically if their digital layer is corrupted.(the audience in this aspect is treated like we have the glasses to see the distortions of the digital unless were in a scene where we see it from a first person point of view of the characters) the network i think maps every object and all things moving including people. those talismans they used on themselves, that beam thing, must be like an add-on to their digital layered self to counter those bug hunting orbs

Is it me or that this show is getting cooler by the moment? In episode 4...,
... we get an war between Yoko Aswawa, Daichi's gang and Fumie. I must say that they are all impressive trying to use their tactics to defeat each other, but the winner of it all is Yoko Aswawa. She's just so cool with her punkish attitude, her quick intellect, and her little cute fuzzball minions. Hehe. Still, I think each character in this show is cool as well.
Can't wait for the next episode. |

From time to time a show comes along that is far better than anything else on offer at the moment. Dennou Coil is that kind of show, been waiting for something like this since Kemonozume.
Absolutely essential. |

Hooray! More Dennou Coil!
This episode was much more laid back than the last couple. I get the feeling they're nearly done with character introduction and preliminary development. We actually got a bit of back story this episode (as opposed to just hints) and a reason to take the story forward, too,
namely the death of Haraken's friend and the possible involvement of illegals.
So more main plot to come soon, I'd say. Not that I need it either way; I always look forward to this, whatever. It's such a charming anime so far. |

Yeah the last episode felt like a bit of a let down after some of the previous episodes. I don't mind the laid back feel, but the first few episodes kind of built expectations, so I hope that having the character introductions out of the way, they start to move the story along. Of course there is still at least one more character to be introduced. Wonder when we'll see them. |

I didn't say it was a let down, just that it was laid back.
If you think about it, there's
at least 4 members of the Denno Coil Investigation Agency that we haven't met. Fumie was member 7, Yasako was 8 and Haraken was 5. If Haraken's friend was a member, that's still four more numbers we haven't even seen yet. I think it's likely this other character you talk about is also a member, but we'll just have to wait and see...
So if you go on that information, the introductions could go on for a few more episodes. Hope not, but it's a possibility.

The character I was talking about is the one that the antagonist was talking to on the phone. The one directing her actions. They may be a member of the agency already, but I rather doubt it. Of course your right, we haven't met several of the other members yet, so anything is possible. I'd rather they quit with the introductions though and just moved on with the story.
Altogether though, I've been enjoying this show so far. Its got a very unique feel to it. A little like Lain, though much, much better. |

I'm up to episode 9 (the anonymous subs don't work on my rubbish computer! ) and things are definitely getting interesting. Ep.9 was quite eerie, though this series is never going to have proper frights and scares for obvious reasons. The story is moving along nicely now, as well, with a couple more mysteries and the last (probably) of the characters now introduced, or at least alluded to.
Hopefully, now they don't have NANA to worry about, Ureshii can get their skates on and catch up with this series (they seem to be doing so). It's annoying knowing there are subbed episodes out there which I can't watch... |

Dennou Coil has really got me very interested into it, its got that unique feel to it ^^
I'm slowly catching with the episodes and I'm currently up to episode 12. Funniest episode I've seen so far I reckon.
The whole growing a beard and causing an epidemic was funny enough, then they grow thier own civilization haha ... the whole episode was just full of WIN haha

| Totally agree on the episode 12 = WIN point. I think it's the funniest single episode of anything I've seen this year. The next episodes get a lot more serious after that, though... |
