Elfen Lied gave me nightmares because everytime I meet someone new in reality, the detailed image of that person with their head torn and their body being torn in two with their insides spilling out goes through my mind repeatedly.
I had that before watching elfen lied.

Note: One Piece is not a anime for little children, it has plenty of death, blood, violence. Just as much as Bleach and Naruto, perhaps not in the early arcs but later one, you will see. And if your judging it from the dub, you should know by now that the dub seriously failed. I don't think I need to explain the stuff they did (ex. cut down 100 episodes into 50, and removed all blood, extreme violence, death, alcohol and drugs, etc).
One Piece is targeted for 12 year olds, which is WHY they have to explain the stuff they do.

Now THAT is a good post which I totally agree with. The only problem with just watching the first episode is that the anime may get better later on or the first episode was just a "bad" one (ex. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya). I say judge by first 3-5 episodes, works alot better than just checking the first episode out. I would have missed out on ALOT of good animes if I had just watched the first episode and judged it.
I ... knew enough about tMoHS from the first episode, I'd say its your method of evaluating series that is wrong.
Except Fate Stay Night, which I couldn't watch because I couldn't take another second of the main character. So I asked 'is he the main character for the entire series?' My point is my system of 'will I like this' says F/SN is bad, terrible even. So I haven't watched it much, but it still got 'best anime of 2006' in polls here
I'm not sure when the top 50 chart was last updated on A-S, but as a suggestion, I think it should be redone within age catergories of the most popular, best action, etc (all the other catergories that were up and maybe even more if need be).
Childish? Some of the anime I've been refered to tend to be way too childish sometimes, yet I constantly hear others agree that they liked it. The reason for that might be an age difference. For example alot of teenagers like Ichigo 100% which I thought was funny at times but entirely too childish most of the time. I agree that seeing anything semi erotic and getting a nose bleed is kind of insipid. Being an adult and out of high school, I rather not relive (vicariously!!!! bc goodness knows we all love anime so much bc we dream of being that top shunobi or having the key qualities to attract all the hot anime babes to live under one roof with you) the reality of elementary school when mentioning touching a boob was something sacred or forbidden.
Isamu: I disagree that you don't care about the art/design of the anime you're watching. I mean if all the characters had oval bodies, I doubt it would catch yours or anyone elses attention... (Note: South Park is funny but not anime. Although I hear its funny, I can't get into it bc of the laziness of the artwork).
Anime for mature audiences: Death Note (psychological), Code Geass (psychological, mecha, action), Kimi ga nozomu eien (romance), Samurai Champloo (action!), Utawararumono (action!), Ergo Proxy (psychological, some action), Nana (romance, life), 12 Kingdoms (action), Fate Stay Night (romance, action), Trinity Blood (action) (although... I just liked this one more for the art than anything else). These are anime I can really go more for. I still love Bleach and Naruto though!
Also in my opinion, I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to see more gore and violence. I think its more of a psychological way of fulfilling a craving or sublimating it. As long as you don't go out and commit the crime yourself. Once again thouugh, living vicariously through something. Some people want romance anime to fill a need/want, or just to have a good story. Some want action to fill a need/want to be a hero or maybe even a bad guy that can get away with it (Light) for a while. But these are just my opinions.
I'm still trying to catch up on alot of anime so I really haven't seen every anime there is to really comment more. I also refuse to see alot of the new anime until the seasons are completely finished. I'm already irked that I have to wait weekly for Bleach, Naruto, Death Note, and D. Gray Man to come out. And I'm even more pissed that there wasn't an episode of Bleach this week!!!!!! A friend said Claymore was a good new anime but I think there are only six episodes or something like that. Not too sure since I haven't seen it.
Oh and I agree that Death Note should have ended after a certain someone died (not to give anything away). Interested to see what the creators have in store. It better be good!
Judgement: Not trying to call you out or be mean (so don't take it that way) but you must be a teenager (in reference to the nightmare comment and no I'm not agest)? _________________ I am power driven by determination. i do move onto the next genre but there are only so many genres that you can watch so it just goes in a cycle and im now in a new cycle

ok maybe i said something wrong but its not that i dont like a good looking anime, its just that art isnt the most important thing. ive seen some very good looking anime that just suck and i've seen some average looking anime that was great. im just saying that when it comes to judging an anime art is what i look at last on the things i look for. i love the different styles of art, all the way from the decades before my time to the art nowadays. like take vampire hunter D(came out in 1985) for instance, even though the art style isnt as beautiful and shiny looking as anime nowadays its still a great anime. so i just dont think art style is the most important thing to look at, which some people think is the most important.
oh and if there was an anime and the characters had oval bodies i think i would be ashamed to call it jap anime or anime at that, i thik i would call it a cartoon just to save some face.
as for death not, well for me it ended right after a certain someone died, i was to mad for what they did to read anymore.
i dint like ergo proxy because i found that i knew things before they came to pass,so it was a bit easy and boring.

it was stupid of me to make the poll the way it is, i actually should have made it for what i really meant. i find childish anime bad so what i should have made was a poll that asks, "do you believe that anime nowadays is getting childish?" which is my real question. _________________ go to www.LRmagic.com for all your magical needs

In gener animes is becoming more than worse
i dont see good romance,action,slice of life...etc
they just make animes with good quality and beautiful kawaii faces ^^;
other than that even the stories arent that good as it used to be
that's my opinion ^^
and animes arent getting childish these days
not all of them...maybe some ^^
techno>>>You mean if you used to see comedy animes in good ways in old days you have to accept animes with bad jokes and exagerting in new days? everyone has their own liking and disliking
you cant judge people on their point of view that they are close minded or not. Maybe what people saw in old animes has some good sides unlike these days and some may not even notice. _________________ "Blogger"

So is Bleach and Naruto, if you disagree with that, then One Piece in not for 12-year olds either. While on that topic, nowadays, young children watch anything, I know some 12 year olds that watch stuff like Elfen Lied and Berserk, and their fine. Nowadays, anime doesn't have an age limit, ANYONE watches ANYTHING.

So you think judging from just the first episode is right? Judging from the first couple episodes is usually how the MAJORITY of anime watchers judge their animes.

Well, the main character's personality changes throughout the series but he stays the main character. The anime was good but the game is ALOT better since its the original.

Well, for once, someone guessed my age correctly, yes, I am a teenager but nearly everyone thinks I'm 20-30 since due to my posts. Alot of people think I don't act like a teenager either. Though, my nightmares are not from when I'm sleeping but when I'm awake since I have this urge to kill. No, I am serious, when someone is doing something I dislike right in front of me, the words kill go through my mind repeatedly, I can't even hear anything else. Once, when I was 9, I took a pencil and stabbed it half way into another classmates arm, there was alot of blood. I've even struck my own parents once. So, watching something like Elfen Lied only brings out more of my urge to kill.

Well, I think they continued it because they didn't want a certain someone to win and complete his goal.

You mean the anime, cause that was a failure. I don't get how people would like the anime. The manga on the other hand is really good, if your judging it from the anime, try reading the manga too (unless your not a manga reader). Ichigo 100% isn't childish at all, atleast in the manga, since the anime didn't include any of the "deep" stuff and is only about 1/3 of the manga.
NOTE: isamu2, you should just edit your previous post instead of posting so many times.....
i love to watch a good fight in real life and on the tv but i like it more in an anime since they can do soooo much more
Yea! I get what you're saying. I think that's one thing I love about anime bc they really can do so much more and its natural because its all animation. When youu look at a movie, sometimes the special effects aren't really that special and it makes the movie look dumb. So yea, anime can include all of that fantasy stuff we wish was natural and make it look cool!
But yea, I've noticed alot of similiarities in anime with minor alterations and a brand new cast. For example, Fate Stay Night and Shingetsutan Tsukihime are exactly the same except one has magicians and one has vampires (plus other minor twist). And then even among Vampire anime which I'm really starting to dislike. Actually I liked Blood + (except for the ending). Anyway anime like Busou Renkin, Shakugan no Shana, Cresent Love, Naruto, and even FSN all have the leading male character who has an extremely pure heart... with that alone... it pushes them to accomplish any obstacle. Personally, I think that role is getting extremely played out although I do want the ending of Naruto to end on a good note. I agree that alot of anime focuses way too much on the art and less on the creativity of the storyline. But a good storyline is nothing without the music and the key chemistry to push it along. And I especially hate irrelevant fillers!! But yea, don't knock all the new anime that's coming out. Just like movies, the wait for a good one is always worth it. Not ever anime is going to go the way we want it.
Oh by the way Isuma, you're in violation. No double posting... haha... I got yelled at for it so I'm sure someone is going to yell at you for doing it. Oh yea, you should give FSN another try. I don't think I got into it until the 4th episode but Berserker (aka Hercules) is beast!

And that's why we need better parental control Judgement. That's really not healthy. You should go see someone if that is how your mind responds to difficulty. *tear* makes me sad knowing our youth have become so violent. Starting to think Television/music/anime are bad for society... but I can't make that claim since I like em so much... haha!

I don't know how you can compare them, their almost totally different, if your saying these two are the same, then arn't nearly all animes the same (as long as their within the same genre)?

Main character of FSN is not pure, nor even close......in fact, I would pretty much call him "evil" (well, this is from the game point of view, not anime). But still, even in the anime/manga, he isn't that much of a "good" guy (I mean, look at Archer).

It isn't television, music, or anime that gave me these thoughts, its the fact that I have a mental father that chucks chairs and glass bowls at you if you even make one comment that disagree's with him. Also due to REALLY bad childhood. Seriously, I've met more "evil" people during my elementary school years than I ever did during high school.

I probably should but its fine, as long as I have anime, it helps me stay in control. Seriously, if I ever lost my computer for more than a month, there would be ALOT of bloodshed.

I am sure that anime had not gotten worse. In fact, it has got much better than how it used to be. In the 1970s, people were saying that Ashita no Joe has deep storyline and complex characters... well, of course, they are wrong. Ashita no Joe has an extremely retarded story and stupid characters. Nevertheless, look at how many good anime came out. Berserk, Monster, Now and Then Here and There...et.c. Last year, we have got Death Note which is excellent. Now, if people who have said that Ashita ano Joe is good seen Monster, they would have agreed that anime has become much better.
The problem, however, is fanboy hype which people must learn to take them with a grain of salt. Of course, I learned my lesson long time ago (two years ago, to be precise). Two years ago, I had a period when I was extremely bored of anime because I was watching anime which people were saying that they are the best eva...which most of them sucked ass. (no anime names mentioned).
However, I did not lose faith in anime... and I started to ignore popular opinions completely (and I still do right now). Then I found my actual anime taste of what I actually like....and I only watch those stuffs. I learned that there are many excellent anime around which are so obscure. And I watched those stuffs.
In short, you have to find your own anime taste. Popular opinions can help you getting accustomed to the anime world. But once you are the experienced viewer, you have got to trust yourself without caring much about popular opinions, because every anime viewers have different tastes. You will never find a person whose anime taste is 100% identical to yourself.. _________________ [IMG:205:157:4263622574]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v608/charn/suzumiya-ep04-02.gif[/img:4263622574]
