Help identifying file.

I just downloaded a video file but it isn't RAR it's an MKV file. I need to know what to do so that I can veiw it (stuff like programs and steps would be awsome) Thanks. Sorry I'm total newb at this.

.mkv is a container for audio and video data. i suggest getting CCCP, the Combined Community Codec Pack, created by a group of anime subbers for the express purpose of viewing anime. It contains everything required to view most anime released today, including medai players (Media Player Classic and Zoomplayer, i suggest MPC). check it out here: http://www.cccp-project.net
