Hey guys. Yes, I'm alive, but I've been inactive for some time (years).
Last year I went to SakuraCon for the first time, and decided that I'd take the plunge and make my own costume for next year. As Macross was my first anime, I decided on cosplaying as one of the veritech fighters. My goal is the VF-0A fighterhttp://www.toysnjoys.com/macrosstoys/1_60vf0a.jpg but of course, as I've never done something like this, heh. I doubt it'll turn out alright.
I've drawn up plans, and I should be about 6.5-7' tall if I build it alright.
I've estimated the entire mecha to cost roughly 75USD, (spray paint is really expensive! and I'm going to be using a lot of it...) to build as a high quality reusable costume. So we'll see if it works. (And for those of you who think that's WAY too much money... yeah, it probably is XD)
Today I started gathering supplies, and as a test to see if I'm capable any, I decided to make the gun pod for the fighter. I chose a mix between the regular gun pod and the GU-111. Here're production photos so far:
Still incomplete, but I'm pretty happy with what I have so far.
Materials used... tape, snapple bottle, broken Maverick nerf gun I got for two bucks from Seattle Goodwill, some pvc pipe and random plastic things from Home Depot, cardboard tubes and some hot glue.
[By the way, the gun is roughly 48'']
Total cost production (current)- 25USD
Total cost estimate- 75USD
Any tips on how to improve/design etc etc would be much appreciated. Again, this is my first time doing anything of the sort, so I'm really hoping for some help.
(And maybe you'll get your name put somewhere on my suit! )
Anywho, if you want to find me at sakuracon, I'll be the seven foot robot walking around with Skullkid. _________________ TheXolution
busy with summer classes and work. the photo above shows the most recent progress...
feet and one of the lower leg portions. Still have to add connections to the leg, put on the final layer of paint (dark gray), and then add random decor before slathering the entire thing in clear tape to ward off damage from random wear.
(and yes, the feet support me. you have no idea how much reinforcement is inside) _________________ TheXolution
