Most Original Anime Series?

I'd have to say Gantz, Deathnote, and Serial Experiments Lain. For Gantz, I just think the whole concept is crazy. I must admit, I'm coming from the manag perspective. The show wasn't that great, so I guess Gantz isn't that good of an example, but it was an anime, and if the anime had continued to follow the manga, then we would have seen the real creativity behind gantz. Deathnote is original for obvious reasons. Serial Experiments Lain, while seemingly everyday in the begining, begins to morph into a crazy sci-fi world. I'd say original is a good word for it.

Just spent 2 days watching all of Death Note. Previously I did not have any interest, but with the english version released I had to watch the subs. It is original but definitely similar to Code Geass.

Both the Hero/anti-hero justify their own agendas, allowing the audience to choose either one or the other as being correct, and even finding oneself agreeing with both.

Both are justified in their actions...to a point, Light trying to get rid of the world's criminals, Lelouch the evil tyranny of the Britannia Empire. Remove the Shinigami from Death Note insert Lelouch's girl who gave him the geass.

Both were the smartest students in their respective shool's, both led double lives.

I could go on, Death Note is nice but not the most original. As for most original I do not really have any. Even Astroboy could be compared to cartoons or comics previous to it's animation.

in terms of storyline DEATH NOTE definitely... the most amazing and original anime,,, Haruhi is good, but Kira RuLes........................
