They are neither plants nor animals. They differ from other forms of life such as the micro-organisms and the fungi. Instead they resemble the primeval body of life and are generally known as "Mushi". Their existence and appearance are unknown to many and only a limited number of humans are aware of them. Ginko is a "Mushi-shi" who travels around to investigate and find out more about the "Mushi". In the process, he also lends a helping hand to people who face problems with supernatural occurances which may be related to the "Mushi".
First off, the OP is simple, and the music just goes well with it. And then the OST is good too. Character-wise it doesnt sparked any interest nor intrigue in me, except what is a mushishi true job.
However, the flow was nice, the story full of mystery and mystique. The arts are simple, not too beautiful, not too bad. I counted two jokes that manages to bring out a smile in me.
Verdict: I have been waiting for this, and I am not dissappointed. Alongside Aria, this can be another interesting anime to be watched _________________ ...
I believe Mushishi is one of those one-shot stories, each episode after the next doesn't relate to any other (thus you can watch the episodes in any order)
I also watched the first episode and wasn't to impressed with the OP song (or sequence). However, I really love the content. I might be the only one that feels this way, but doesn't the whole background, music, even the colour give you the Studio Ghibli feel"? It's awesome and almost "mystical". It's the same feeling as Tonari no Totoro. I do like the character design (not for the Mushi) but for the girl, simple but nice. I hope that this anime can continue with the same "Hayao Miyazaki" atmosphere.

Himitsu, now that you mention, it has a studio Ghibli ala Miyazaki feel. When I watched the first episode, the animation style reminded me of someone's but I couldn't put my finger on it. Its too early to say anything but based on the first episode, I really liked it.

Hmm, a Ghibli-like feeling eh... Well maybe from the story, but I generally feel most Ghibli-like feeling in other animes from the characters, so I don't feel any of it from this one
And this anime turns out to be episodic, but it seems each episode reveals a bit more about Mushi though, like in this episode, what is the aftereffect if you look into that river for too long.
Sidenote: Characters that are portrayed here are cute. In this episode case, Sui and Bika ^^ _________________ ...
Saw two episodes of it... quite like it already...
But is it just me, or did the kid from the first episode looked almost identicle to the kid in the second episode?

I think so. kamichu resembled a history ghibli more that mushi, but the atmosphere its' not unpleasant at all. certainly it is mystic, but like a Ghibli's work, no.

This episode is a bit confusing, as you are been introduced to two mushis instead of one. Well Ginko said that either the host weaken and die, or the Ah melt first. But I wondered what is the factor that decides which comes first. Maybe your will to hear that "gushing lava" sound?
But they depicted the sound that you hear when you close your ear so beautifully though. The moutain that spewed out fire, the lava sound. I almost can connect this with I was taught to believe i.e If you want to hear the sound of Hell, close your ears. _________________ ...

I need to bump this one...
5 episodes in, and this series just pwned me. The way they take the normal happenings of life, and twist it in a mystical way. Like in ep 5, the dead mushi becomes the food for the fishes (plankton or something) and resulted in fishes come to flock there.
Also how they intertwined the story from the previous episode, despite being episodic, I just need to take my hats off that one _________________ ...

*success*
First i would like to start of by saying that this is probally one of the best series this season.
mainly for the pure uniqueness of the story. This is one of a few anime series that makes me think about all the background information and the ideas it suggests.
The idea that mushi's are the cause of everything relates to the string theory. Yet they have ingeniously adapted it to the anime, and to common day things and illnesses.
Well can't wait for ep 6, wonder what they will come up with next?

This is really nice series. It has almost OVA quality animation, and I like how they explain those ordinary things that you can't explain but wondered about it in some time in life.
The mushi that were floating in the air in the first episode made me think of my own experience, like when I wake up in the morning and I can see odd shaped things that seem to crawl around my eyes when I stare into space.
The series progresses similarly to Kino no tabi, one protagonist going from place to place with each episode featuring different stories.
I like it alot so far, it's very mysterious and thought provoking. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]

ep 6 coming up
Another episode that takes the view of life in another dimension! Well in a sense it is true though, when your lifespan are much shorter, time flows differently, and thus your view of life changes too. Pretty cool on how they depiciting the "timeline" of mushi, and what the hosts feel, I think the mushi felt it too

A live action adaptation of Mushishi is currently being developed.
Otomo Katsuhiro is going to direct the film. He was the director of Akira and Steamboy. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]
