Ive looked over the replies of the other FLCL topics and it appears that their are a some of you who accually understood the series. Im writing a few essays at the moment about the complexity of the series, more specifically about the different aspects of society that the characters represent, and different points implied by the sub-plot, please give me your input, I will participate as well. If you only watched FLCL on Adult Swim you probably missed out on some of the finer points of the series, but go ahead and reply as well! thx

Let me clarifly a bit on what I mean. To clear up any confusion, what I should have said is the different common personalities that the characters portray. For instance, what I got from the character Ninamori was a person more concerned with her image in stead of being herself, especially when she explained to Naota the story of Puss n' boots and its meaning.

Also another notion I got while watching the series was that Medical Mechanica represents either government or popular media mostly because of the narration from Naota in episode 1 "the steam it voited forth at a set time each day dispersed thinly covering the town, blocking out the sky" (or something along those lines).

Im just looking for other opinions of the series to contrast my own, basically.

post edited to avoid double posting...

I watched the series rather recently and it might be naive of me to say so, but isn't it possible that you're just reading too much into some of that stuff?

I wouldnt say your being naive, its true that these are just my opinions. However, when I first watched this series I didnt get anything out of it, but I knew there was more to it than just the plot. When characters say things like Commander Amaro says "...dont you want to save your friends, and family,... of course you do, its only natural..." in the final episode, it strongly calls out to me " philosophy relevant to ethics!".

I didnt even begin to pick up on these things until after I watched the series 5 times through. The points that I speak of are very, very vague and subtle. At one point an aspect that helped me figure out a bit more of the series is the fact that the different characters are reflections (alter egos) of eachother: Nandaba Naotas alter egos being Ninamori, Comander Amaro, and Nandaba Kamon, Haruhara Harukos being Mammimi Sameji, and Nandaba Tasku (Naotas brother).

I would say no, since Im not the only one who thinks so (even out of some of the other members of this site). And that publications have been released reguarding this topic already, I havent sought them out though because I want to complete my own analysis on this series first. Also, I didnt pick up on it, but I had a friend mention that there is reference to Sigmund Freud in this series as well, I believed him seeing as how hes a psyce major.

If I did read into it too much and the series goes no further than the base story, well, thats a lot of wasted talent from writer Yoji Enokido (Neon Genesis Evangelion). Theres soooo much more I want to say but you already edited me once. Anyways, when Im finished with my essays on the series I would like to alter them for submission as an in-depth review for your site, .....maybe, then.....

Hmm FLCL. An interesting anime. I found it beyond my ability to comprehend and understand. There might have been some underlying messages and lines that have moral value. I obviously couldn't pick up on it. I just viewed this anime as plain old entertainment. It was just so outrageous and yet it was hilarious. I personally liked it. You mentioned NGE (Neon Genesis Evangelion) well that anime didn't exactly have the feel of a deeper conveyed message. It was rather too perplexing and the ending didn't exactly help. Rather just left you with a bunch of questions. Coincidence that both of them are both are really questionable? So to answer your question... no I most definitely did not understand this anime. It was totally worth my time though.

Oh and some questions... how did you ever manage to watch this anime that many times? It would have drove me crazy to watch this five times. My brain would be Jello.

Ah, FLCL there are so much parodies in that Anime that I can't make head or tails where their from. Still great show. But yea I'd like to know if theres any underlining meaning in it.
