mangaddict rant: Harem is stupid

my life experience has taught me that life is not a harem, it is a reverse harem. It has always been guys chasing after girls and it always will. When I read or watch anime/manga I feel sickened at harem. I can't sympathize with any of the protagonists problems (excluding Junpei Manaka- his problems are worth it). It's always the ungrateful nerd with every girl throwing herself at him, and his "do you want to be in my shoes?" attitude with atleast two other geeks drooling over his luck. Name any harem theme story, ANY and see if you can convince me otherwise. I also don't learn anything from harem either, their "never going to happen to anyone" experiences will do nothing to futher my relationship with girls.

I hope ecchi content isn't a factor in what you think of harems

And its why there are so many types of these harems... coz in anime the poor losery guy can have all the luck Rolling Eyes

Hmm I don't watch many of them because of most reasons you've already stated. The only title that comes to me at the moment that is different from the 'generic' harem is Kanon 2006, main character Yuuichi is not you typical losery, geeking nerd main lead, which made Kanon 2006 quite enjoyable for me.

I don't think all are bad but the ones with no story and just way to dull yes I would consider those just boring.

although I like Negima ^^

I mean Negi Isn't a loser, he is actually the opposite he is the top student and he is a good Magi xD

I mean If u compare that with Ken Akamatsu's Love Hina there is the difference. He himself even said that Negima is different in that the main character isn't a loser Laughing

actually. the only harem i think i've watched is
HIMM, which i think constitutes as a ecchi? i'm not sure...

anywhoo. its anime.
it's not exactly meant to be realistic and obviously people
are for the most part trying to sell their anime. and hell there
are plenty of guys that lurveeee harem mangas/anime. so
why not? the market is there.

plus, its every guy's fantasy (generalizing here) to have
hot girls be throwing themselves at them. so if it doesnt happen
in real life, why not make that fantasy "real" in an anime/manga.

so in conclusion:
i am undecided. Confused

I'd have to say, some harems are good because of their story. I'll never finish watching harems that are pointless. One example of a harem I didn't like was Maburaho. Ichigo 100% is actually one of the better harems I've seen. Manaka doesn't have that attitude where he's like "you wish you were me"
