I've donated blood for about a year and a half now. I don't have any problems with needles or looking at the bag fill up with my blood.
The blood nurses know me by name. They like doing me because I've got 'good' veins (nice and visible, near the surface) that are easy to insert the needle into. Also they tell me I'm a good 'bleeder' in that the bag fills up in no time. A friend also donates and we time how long it takes and compare who 'won' at filling up the bag.
I also donate blood as a way of checking my iron levels. My family has a history of hemochromatosis, which is a build up of iron in the body. It can lead to liver failure if the iron level gets to high (like 3 times normal). Also, before you give blood they weigh you and take your blood pressure so it's like a quick health spot check-up.
About the only time I felt strange afterwards was when I once did some moderate exercise the day after I donated. He He, got a bit light headed and had to sit down for a bit. _________________ 'My hat! My hat! There's vomit on my hat!' - Sven Vollfield.

I've been donating since 2001. It's been on and off namely because I've had to travel to malaria endemic regions and they always need a 6 month 'cooling off' time between my 12 donations.
Even though it's an unpaid voluntary service here in the UK, it's great to know that it's going to good use.
During my studies I've seen kids close to dying of cancer and the reason they can survive their treatment was because of the generosity of other donors. Just 30 minutes of your time really does make a difference. _________________ Click Here For My Anime List

I donated blood a few years ago, but right now they won't let me. There's a rule that if you've gotten tattooed in a state that doesn't governmentally regulate its tattoo parlors you can't give blood for at least six months. Naturally the shop I go to autoclaves all their equipment and abides by more stringent sanitation standards than are required in regulated states, but it's still illegal for me to donate blood and every time I get work done it pushes the date back more.

Well, even though it's not been made into law, the blood service here tells us not to return until a year after you had a tattoo. Then of course, the customary blood tests etc.
I've only had the one tatt and not planning on getting anymore soon _________________ Click Here For My Anime List

It's growing?!?
Are you getting more tatts and adding them as an add-on or is it..."something else" entirely? _________________ Click Here For My Anime List

It's all one piece that starts at the mid shin/calf region and right now goes to about mid thigh. I'm going to take it a couple inches higher on the inside and have it go all the way up to my hip on the outside. I know that Japanese will make fun of me, but it's a traditional Yakuza style tattoo. I'm not saying I endorse the guys, they just make the coolest body art in the world.

No arguments there! It's a shame that there's such a taboo for tattoos over there. I've only got the small one inbetween my shoulder blades and the looks I got when I went into the public baths during my elective over there could have skinned me alive.
It was only when I explained to them I was from the UK that they eased up. Imagine being seen as a junior yakuza
But yours sounds cool definitely! Is it just the plain black design, or have you gone for the multi-coloured? _________________ Click Here For My Anime List

No and maybe never.
Why? Because I have anemia and low tension blood. So I really need blood! >_< |

There's really not much of a "feeling after." You might be a little light-headed, especially if you're a smaller person, but they basically set the amount they take to prevent any effects on the donors.

I really do want to donate my blood. There was a blood drive at my school on Wednesday but I couldn't donate because after donating, donors are not suppose to do anything strenuous and I had a badminton match that day. It would of been nice if I could of donated, they gave donors all the twinkies and juice they wanted, plus a free shirt.

Nope I have on my own free will wanted to donate blood. But the doctor tells me I need to have a blood check and 10ml is reqiurd. I was deceived, I went and got 300ml of blood taken from me. That was stolen blood.
