the first plan was to go to NY just my parents, my siss and i........but my siss and i were going to miss our grandpas. the house im living right now here in Perú is my grandpas'. almost all our lifes we have lived here with them so..........yeah, its going to be pretty sad to leave them n_nU

did you move yet? where are you living?
anyway, I'm reviving this since we're getting closer to the con date and preregistration is probably closing soon. I know a few people here have said they were going so I wanted to get another headcount to find out who is still considering going so we can do a meet-up.

I'm going with 3 or 4 friends from Boston and we're staying with some other friends on Long Island (I'm going for an extra day on Thursday and staying with another friend on Manhatten).

no, i havnt moved yet but my dad has been accepted for the charge at the DPKO.
so starting november, any time soon we should be fliying to NY.
we'll be living in New Jersey
heeeeee??? preregistration is almost over??? and the normal registration???

I'm assuming pre-reg is closing soon. They usually close about a month before the con. Normal registration you can just walk up the day you arrive and get in... again, assuming that NYAF is a walk-in con. Some cons require you to prereg.

I've been a resident of NY all my life, so if there's anything you want to ask about food and where to buy cheap manga, I'll be glad to help. XD
Wait, isn't the New York Anime Festival from the 7-9th? I might actually be able to go for the first time. O_O

yes, you're right. I didn't realize I forgot to change those dates above. Someone else corrected me another place (I really don't know why I keep messing up that weekend).

Well, I lived in NY all my life,  , and don't even know half the good places in the city. Well, depending on whether my friends are going, I'm going to head back home for the weekend and go to my first anime con/festival, whichever suits better. Then rush back to school to get ready for finals. >.< I just hope that whatever happens there will not cause me to regret going.

haggle, you mean... the best advice I can give you:
- shop late (Sunday is your best day to bargain since there's more pressure for them to sell their stuff before packing up)
- buy more than one item (buying in bulk means more room to negotiate)
- act like you can do without it
so... the magical situation that always works for me...
::xeno walks up to dealer table on a Sunday afternoon, hangs around a bit, looks curious, maybe pokes a few items, doesn't touch the thing he actually wants to buy until he's been for the a few minutes::
Dealer: "anything I can help you with?"
Xeno: "nope, just browsing" (OR) "do you have anything from SERIES NAME?"
::dealer answers question, maybe shows you something he's got::
Xeno: "ah that's cool"
::studies it for a minute or two while trying your best to hide any interest in it. While still holding the item he showed you (assuming you want it), pick up the item you originally wanted::
Xeno: "I'm interested in this. (doesn't matter which you hold up) Now, if I buy this (hold up other item) with it, can you knock off a couple bucks?"
RESULT - usually you can get like 5-15% taken off. I think I ended up getting a $24 poster for like $18. It was in the $5 discount range.

It's my first anime con, but I have to go. Whee~~ XD
Word of advice: If you can't live without it, then get it right away. If you can live without it, haggle for it. XD
It works, for the most part. =p
Gah~~ tempted to embarass myself on the stage for the voice actor tryouts for fun. What to do? What to do? XD
*gets pumped for no reason*

haha... not to be confused with a "knock-off" which means bootlegged or counterfeit merchandise, haha

it all depends... if an item is already a good deal (like those $20 Kore Ga Watashi no Goshujin-sama figures I saw at Otakon... 28 sold in one day), then they're going to go quick. Some figures from lesser known shows might be hanging around. Posters and DVDs are always easy to find.
If you're really worried about temptation, I would suggest to just stay out of the Dealers' Room on Friday and as much as you can on Saturday. Remember, whatever you buy, you have to carry around all day
