| You wake up in a forest. You don't know what forest, but you're pretty sure it's a forest. Trees, grass, no people. You're wearing average clothes and carrying a backpack. Which of these items do you wish was in your backpack the most? |

I pick revolver with the one bullet. I think its probably the best choice out of all of them.
I mean, if a bear pops up, you can just cap 'em. _________________

When his friend shows up, well, your screwed...
A compass and a torchlight for me... at least I have directions. I'll just rip a bear apart if i see one. |

What i would REALLY want in that back pack is a knife... preferably a machete knife... even if it is just that im pretty much good to go...
but given the choices i had a hard time deciding wether it be a baseball bat or a lighter...
i opted for the lighter so that i have an easier access to fire for warmth, protection and for cooking my food... gives me a chance to put up a smoke signal to tell people there is someone in the forest... _________________

I went with the cigarette lighter... it provides light and warmth. If a bear comes along to start trouble, I can just light a branch on fire and wave it around. Supposedly you don't need anything to scare away bears... or any predators for that matter... just by standing your ground and acting tough. With animals, it's more about bark than bite.
I don't need a compass since I don't know where I am or where I'm supposed to be heading, so I'm just going to pick a direction and keep walking. I can tell East and West by the position of the sun.
A knife would be good... but that's assuming you're going to be dealing with wild animals or hostile natives. Most forests are just full of deer, squirrels, and skunks... well, the ones where I live anyway. Maybe the occassional coyote. Bottom line, I MAY need the knife, but I already know that I WILL need the lighter. _________________

the reason i would have wanted a knife is because when i was like in my second year of highschool we took a trip to the mountains and this forest guide showed us how with a machete knife you could basically be able to live in the forest for an indefinite amount of time..
with his machete knife and 4 nodes of dried bamboo he was able to...
make a fire...
carve out a cup for his water...
carve out a plate...
carve out a spork or if you want chopsticks...
and even make a rice cooker... provided you have a supply of rice on you...
i don't think i will be able to do it as fast and as cool as he would do it so a lighter would be my best option considering my skills.. hahaha.. _________________

i,ll choose the cigarette lighter coz like xeno said, it provide light and warmth...
its obviously very cold inside a forest especially when night came, i might end up freeze to dead...
anyways, i,m kinda shocked after reading xrist's post...
i,m honestly thought xrist will vote for a bottle of tequila....
or perhaps a bottle of whiskey... _________________ [img:300:50:996c22e8b0]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/Ragnarin/myforumLOLskills.gif[/img:996c22e8b0] |

gen>> that goes to show how little you know about me...
i MIGHT be able to make do with a bottle of tequila... the tequila itself can be fuel for a fire... but then i have to find a spark of some sort... the bottle or its shards can be used to defend myself when danger approaches... _________________

I used to have "pocket knife" as an option, but anyone can do anything with one of those. So I replaced it with baseball bat. For clubing animals and whatnot, not as versatille
In my opinion, a compass and flashlight were the wrong choice, I mean, if you don't know the landscape, a compass is useless.
I chose, cigarette lighter for warmth, light, cooking food, a weapon, and burning down the whole damn forest if that's what it takes to get rescued. |

I'm thinking a hatchet or a .50cal sniper with 100 rounds. _________________ If violence isn't the answer, you didn't use enough.

As others have said, a compass could screw you up. And as others have chose, I also choose a lighter. Brings warmth and light. Can create fire and be able to use it as a torch or scare off hungry animals or even any cannibals. Plus if I somehow impossible upset the native I can simply do this.
The Beautiful Innocent Guardian Angel: Behold ... FIRE!!!
Natives: Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!! Hail Angel!
*Natives do a sort of ritual dance that official makes Angel their leader* _________________

What I wish would have been added was a pocket knife. But since that is not an option I went with compass and light
From a survivalist stand point this is the best option because you can determine your way out day or night (even though you can do this by looking at which way the sun rises as well) and if you have a mettle chain for a necklace you can short out the light and start a fire.
The revolver sucks because it does not have enough power to stop a bear, more then likely it will just piss it off.
The bat is only good for fighting off traditional zombies and girl scouts.
The snicker bar although tempting has no actual value unless you plan on being in the woods for more then 20 days
The bible would make for excellent tp except that the ink will cause you diarrhea after a couple of uses.
Porn mag - not planning on being in the woods that long
The lighter wouldn't last that long and you can make fire in so many other ways. I'm surprised nobody learned to be that much of a piro when they were younger.
bottle of tequilla - getting a bear drunk is hilarious but not that practicle
mountain money - better then wiping you arse with a pine cone _________________ HCl before H20 makes a big bang |

I don't think a snickers bar would help you for 20 days... I don't care what their commercials promise... they ain't no PowerSource bar or whatever it was that Homer ate

I've heard some bad things about people obsessed with reading the Bible, but never heard them getting diarrhea from it.

Lol... what a load of different answers...
I think if I really need to survive in the forest, I sooner or later need to find a way to make fire using natural elements around... besides, it's not like a compass will "run out of fuel", unless I'm in the bermuda triangle... beside, checking sun direction isn't always a available method, unless you're always in a trees-and-grass kind of forest (without mashlands, swamps, etc)

I don't think using a compass is all about having a map and following the directions... it's more like focusing on a certain direction for a long period of time... Also there's so many methods of figuring out your landscape...
That's what I learn in a orienteering camp... |
