Basically 'moe' is a factor in a certain character that is a 'turn-on' for the fans/otaku.
For example:
Tsundere
Twin Pigtails
Pink hair
lolicon
Neko-mimi
Maids
Glasses
etc.~
and yeah Angel_Armz link to wiki is good too
And I've learnt recently, what is 'moe' to one person might not be 'moe' to another person. _________________ Get ready to vote for who you think is the Sexiest Anime Character!! |

hmmm, pretty much how Kimmie said it... it means something different to everyone. Her list is the typical list of what most otaku go for. _________________

Moe. Moe is more than that, it is something that causes a deep feeling of warm lust and infatuation for the said something... and more than that, it is unreachable in real life, only to be admired from a far.
In simpler words, MOE means (for me), so damnably cute that I want to snuggle that girl (and to me MOE can only be describing a girl, hopefully that's true for you guys out there) and whack every other person who tries to touch her. However, I don't lust for nor do I want to have sexual relations with that very MOE girl. Just a lot of hugging. And that warm fuzzy feeling. Hug hug hug. Mmmm. Snuggles.
In a lesser extent, that's how I describe one of my younger cousins. She's so cute... but then again, she's a model. I kind of take any guys who approach her into a dark alley and threaten them. Just a little. |

ah yes, good point. I think that's why otaku catch so much flak from outsiders. Guys like me and suke and others just want to dote on cute girls, not necessarily be creepy and try to molest them, but to people who don't understand the concept, they'd be calling the cops to come investigate our houses full of cute figurines and posters and next thing you know, another otaku nerd is on the news for being a sexual predator. _________________

Lucky my uncle understands, unlucky my aunt doesn't.
Then again, they owe my family too much to say a word...
But back to the topic, there aren't really any MOE type girls in Anime, because they tend to grow a little and fall in love (but most cases, it's actually just pheromones). Then they become less and less attractive because they turn uncute.
Then there are girls who are MOE because they don't change, ex: that alien girl from SHnY.

SHnU xD i think you mean SHnY^^
i think Lucky Star has some Moé characters...
girl 1# "what is yaoi?"
girl 2# "dondake?!?"
xD
i don't think this 'non-sexual' is true in general...
b/c moé is something that turns you on...so a character can not be moé but some aspects of him might...for example the glasses etc.
since that can be the case, there are people/characters you might consider a sexual relationship who are somewhat moé...
ofcourse moé isn't only used for this...there are characters (prince of tennis for example) who use the term 'moé' to say that they are 'burning' with passion or something like that... _________________ [IMG:338:120:3d94243a9b]http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6072/70939132oo8.png[/img:3d94243a9b]
Afterall, the fate of the world rests on my pitching....the world sure isn't worth much these days. |

Yes... SHnY...
Well, I agree, there are many times where the cases are not 'non-sexual', especially since most of these 'MOE-fans' seem to be male. And in this case... very, very messed up males if they are thinking of 11 year old girls in a sexual manner.
But that gets to the point where a certain aspect of the character is MOE and it is only that aspect that makes a fan think in a sexual manner... then I cannot really complain, since that is basically a fetish.
But you know, things like that 'burning with passion' could be interpreted sexually, as could all things... |
