Okay, I'll just say it. Using a compass when you have no idea where you are is as as useful as a cell phone without batteries. I mean- a complete and total unknowledge of where you are makes a compass very unusable.
Unless it were a gas station compass that points to the closest gas station.

And a lighter is very useful, but what if you already knew how to make a fire? Being able to start a fire is awesome, but being able to start a fire and having a gun is much more awesome. Even though I voted for lighter...

no more votes for lighters please!!!! the thread would be more interesting if results varied

I'm not a smoker, but i gotta say the lighter'd be incredibly helpful for me, since i've never managed to effectively start a fire without one of those or a match >_>; the fire would double as a flashlight if i could find the right stick and materials; while there are other signs to which way is north..such as which side of the tree has the most fungal growth

A compass and flashlight.

A lighter would make some things easier, but I don't need one to make a fire. A single bullet wouldn't really help you much unless you were attacked by a bear or something, but even then that's a big IF you get attacked and it would only help you once. A fire would probably be more effective against a bear anyway. Same with hunting --- you're probably better off making traps to catch your meat. Toliet paper is a luxury you can live without, books of any kind that aren't surivival manuscripts are as good as toliet paper when lost out in the wilderness, a Snickers bar won't last, I can tear a limb from a tree and call that my bat, and a bottle of tequila is made of cow piss.

At least with a compass and a flashlight I can get my bearings straight and quite possibly find my way back to familiar territory.

People, please, the tequila, is by far the best choice.

Why?

If you're scared, DRINK and you'll become courageous (at least for a short time)
If you're cold, DRINK and you won't feel your fingers falling off one by one
If a bear comes round to eat you (?), offer it a DRINK and then it might just let you ride its back
If you get lonely, DRINK and make a best friend out of your bottle, or the bear if you're at that stage yet

i know how to start a fire with just wood and some husk and moss

i can kill a bear with wood spear tip with a sharp stone

i can make a knife out of stone

and since it a forest im sure there are lots of ear that is not willing to be my dinner hehehehehe

and when i take a call of nature i really need a proper hygien
