My dentist told me: "Its best to get it out as early as possible."

Fortunately, as I am still 18, the wisdom teeth haven't begun to ache yet.

So anyways, my question is: How painful is the extraction? T_T

I got my wisdom teeth out two summers ago. The procedure itself is painless since they drug you. I went in the morning and left in the afternoon soon after. The gums bleed and feel sore for a few days, but that's pretty much it.

I was "sleeping" too when they took it out... But when I woke up my mouth was numb and bleeding, it was swollen and I can't do anything about it... it was pretty terrible for a few hours.

I don't remember mine ever aching... the dentist just did an x-ray during a routine exam and noticed they were ready. When the surgery date came and passed, he told me that it was the easiest extratraction of his career. I did have to go twice, probably the first when I was 18, the second when I was like 22 because the bottom ones were ready earlier than the top ones.

nick already stated that it's not, so I'll just build off what he said... you sit back in a chair and they hold a mask with a tube stuck to it to your face. You count down from 100 and before you get to 97, you wake up in a different room with your parent or friend or whoever drove you holding you up.

You don't feel anything for probably the first day. Later that night, you get a little sting in your mouth that is more annoying than painful. The drugs they give you help... you definitely feel the difference they make. The problem is once you get closer to your recommended next dose, the pain mounts even more and more. Soon every 4 hours turns to 3.5, then to 3 since you can't stand the prickly feeling. Not trying to scare you, but hey, you wanna be prepared.

Good idea to buy yourself lots of soft icecream and fudgsicles... maybe stop at Burger King or McDonald's for a shake every other day.

Of course, you better hope the doctor does some good patchwork on ya... my sister would run downstairs screaming in panic cause her stitches were loose and her mouth was full of blood. Tasty.

xeno> really? o_O

Well for me, after the first few hours I woke up, it was pretty normal for me already, except I cant really walk in a straight line. I dun need medication or anything like that... It was just a bit swollen with the stitches buts that's it...

you didn't need 3 weeks' worth of drugs to stop the stinging? I don't even think I could speak for like the first 2 or 3 days. I remember having to go to work the next day and telling my supervisor to give me work that didn't involve talking to people.

And yeah wisdom teeth is on my list to do >.> mine havent started coming out yet... but yeah need to get dentist to x-ray me and get it checked out.

I remember when my friend got hers out, she said that she kept getting food stuck in the holes O.O and you swell up for a couple days.

Hmm...you guys have been sleeping during the extraction unlike me Y__Y My eyes were wide open..plus they didnt want me to sleep >.<
I didnt feel any pain during the extraction but after it, it hurted a lil.
I've extracted two of them so far. The first one, went easily and bothered me for a lil time. The second, I tried to stay without eating the medicine. Dont try it! Every minute was like living in the hell.
The hidden one I took it out but was more painful then the others. The dentist had to do an operation (SP?) to take it out (I didnt sleep -____-). It was so scary watching the dentist saying "Knife, please" >____< and when he prepared the needle. I think because he was a male, I've been calming down each time I see his face ^^; I was more than happy when three of them gathered to open a case for the tooth was half. After an hour or two the pain came lil by lil. When I reached home, it was at its claimx. The medicine he gave to me, made the pain go away.
I decided not to go anymore, but I forgot as the days passed by ^^

You must get prepared boi. You'll lose one bottle of blood (Actually, I lost three bottles xD).
Eat, drink and sleep well. That time you will miss these normal days. Eat everything you like before it, haha.
Dont worry about the pain. It'll be like an adventure for you~

yeah, they gave me that option to, but since my insurance covered the full anestesia, I opted for the sleepy-time. Plus, I'm impatient and I would have been bored the whole time.

oh geez... so I guess your worst nightmare would be to be stabbed by an ugly woman... if it were a handsome man, you'd be too busy gazing into his eyes to even feel the pain.

Even if the woman were to be beautiful. She would take longer time to take it out.
Handsome or not, as long as he's a male ^^
Actually, that what makes me excited to go extract the forth one. Who would miss a chance to see the kawaii face of 30 years old man? Embarassed

Which leaves only a miserable question: try and take it out with your tongue, or leave it there..

hmm.. stinging? mine was just acheing for a bit, I just pop a couple of paracetamol when it gets irritating. I think i only took it twice...

Wow, I think my condition is really strange...

I would, haha.... well actually I don't even know the gender of the person who took it out...

anyway you extract one at a time? I extract 2 at a time... actually, extracting my wisdom tooth was part of my procedure to get my braces done...so I remove 3 the first time and 4 the second time...

I'm getting my WT yanked out too, probably in the winter. Dentist says that it's a good time to get em yanked now cuz a) they need to be yanked out, all 4 of em and b) I'm young, in good health and they're coming out early. I can't drink anything using a straw and the meds are supposed to make me feel better. No food or water 8 hours before the operation and I need someone to drive me home cuz of the drugs. Can you imagine if I had finals after the operation? I'd almost be worth it to watch; it'd undoubtedly be hilarious.
