Next episode (12) looks like it might be quite interesting.

They're starting to develop a bit of mystery

WOW! There are just so many similarities in Macross Frontier compared to the other Macross installments! You gotta wonder whether or not Kawamori couldnt come up with something a little more original but it doesnt matter since I STILL LOVE MACROSS!

First some character similarities:

Ozma Lee - Roy Folker...anyone else say to themselves, "Yeah youre gonna die sometime in this series..."?

Mikhail (Michele/Michael) and Klan- Genius pilot (Max 'Jenus/Genius' Sterling) and Miriya (Zentradi Female Ace)

Ranka Lee - Lynn MinMay cinderella story

And some story similarities:

-Ranka Lee not only works in a Chinese restaurant like Lynn MinMay but also enters the Miss Macross Competition as well.

-Alto Saotome hops in a Valkerie for the very first time to rescue Ranka from a Vajra and has an identical cockpit scene as in the very first Macross TV series.

-Alto then joins the SMS to become a pilot whether it be running away from acting or the thought of protecting Ranka; much like Hikaru(Rick Hunter) joined the military thinking he would protect MinMay.

-Alto and Sheryl share a dialogue and a kiss while filming the Macross Zero adaptation movie in Episode 10 regarding kissing. Sheryl explains that kissing is very natural in acting much like how Hikaru(Rick Hunter) didnt believe MinMay that a kiss from her movie was not real but in fact just acting (from the Macross:DYRL Movie).

and for those who havent watched Episode 11:

-Ranka was stood up in giving her gift to Alto (Resemblance to Misa/Lisa Hayase being stood up by Hikaru(Rick) on their picnic date) and gets a visit from the little green animal. She then feeds it/him/her some cookies she made just like Misa/Lisa fed a puppy that visited her while waiting for Hikaru(Rick)

All in all i LOVE this series especially after i felt Zero was more Eye Candy than substance and you really cant understand Zero unless youve sat through and watched all of Macross Seven.

I found it amusing just picking up these similar tidbits thoughout the series. Brings back memories.

Also I read a post here about someone asking what the chronological order of the Macross series and it goes like this :

1) Macross TV (also known as Robotech licensed by Harmony Gold and released in the U.S.) If youre unable to watch the Japanese version watching the US version is fine since they are almost identical. However, the other 2 U.S. installments of the Robotech Saga; Southern Cross and The Next Generation as well as the ABOMINATION called Robotech: Shadow Chronicles have nothing to do with the original Macross story.

2) Macross: Do You Remember Love? Based on the original TV series. Shoji Kawamori (creator of Macross) stated once as to why some of the events in the movie differ from the TV series in which he replied, "There is more than one way to tell a story." Much like he did with Escaflowne. References from both the TV series and movie would later be meshed in with the story as noticed in the later installments of the Macross franchise.

3) Macross Plus - The competition between the YF-19 and YF-21 Valkeries which would later be used in Macross 7.

4) Macross 7 in my opinion MUST BE WATCHED in order to understand Macross Zero. Its painful, but if youre a Macross fanatic like I am, youll bear with it.

5) Macross Zero - This is the prequel to the whole Macross story. I would say to watch this only after watching Macross 7 because the AMAZING CG's will just make you forget what it is youre trying to understand about the story.

6) Macross Frontier

I really like the idea of the Protodevlin from Macross 7 being the Zentradi's most feared enemy and I'm intrigued as to how this story (Macross Frontier) unfolds.

The Reentry Atmosphere, Sheryl said it has a Sky, the Evidence of the First Macross ship.

All those are huge hints that leads us to teh final question.

Is Gallia 4 really Earth? I would say yes.

Its also nice to see that they've pulled out old references from the whole Macross series and somehow combines them to the whole story and somehow forces newcomers to macross to watch the old ones to get a better idea of the series.

I understand exactly where you're coming from Rya.

But your conclusions are relying on logic and realism, things that this anime might not have as evidenced by mechas fighting with speaker pods.

About time I caught up with this one...

Luca must be the first anime character ever to leave his love confession for after the battle and actually survive (unless he dies early on ep 15, or got offed "off camera").

I sort of feel bad for the vajra, getting butchered after they stopped fighting... but I have to say that had I been part of the Spacy squads fighting out there, I probably wouldn't have stopped either. As far as everyone knew, it was kill or be killed.

What the hell are Leon and Grace up to?

And as of eps 16, Luca still hasn't confessed!

I was slightly disappointed how they used a lot of stock footage in the battle. I didn't think they would use that much. Lets just hope they don't use it to the extend like GSD. Concerning the next eps, I have this prediction that Ozama might "get it" soon.
